F.A.YOUTH CUP 5th ROUND, Monday 9th February 2009 IPSWICH TOWN (0)0; WATFORD (0) 0
abandoned 88 minutes, waterlogged pitch
The match was in doubt up until the kick-off with the water on the protective cover making it difficult to remove. A pitch inspection at 6.20 (7pm KO) passed it, but the kick-off was delayed 10 minutes and torrential rain continued throughout and the latter stages became a lottery. The decision was greeted with displeasure from the small crowd and the players looked perplexed. Ipswich had the better of the first half but Watford had their moments and after the break they played three forward. As full time approached and the ball got held up regularly the referee spoke to both dug outs and called it off.
IPSWICH TOWN:
Lewis Ward; Luke Hyam(c), Seb Dunbar, Tom Eastman, Jack Ainsley; Billy Clark,
Matt Daniels, David Cawley, Reggie Lambe; Connor Wickham, Ronan Murray.
Sub: Joe Clemo for Daniels 67
Not used: Ian McLoughlin(GK), Jamie Griffiths, Jamie Brandon.
WATFORD:
Jonathan North; Lee Hodson, Rob Kiernan(c), Eddie Oshodi, Louis Lavers, Billy Gibson,
Kurtney Brooks, Cole Penny, Piero Mingoia; Matt Whichelow, Marvin Sordell
Subs: Gavin Massey for Sordell 57, Andy Yiadom for Lavers 79
Not Used: Bo Antal(GK), Fabrice Otshudi, Theo Angus.

Chances are it would have been 32 minutes, but it does seem strange not to wait until 90 minutes were up, just in case someone scored in the last few minutes.

Not really sure of the relevance of your comment regarding non Prem sides. At Youth Cup level, we are dealing with three categories of team - FA Premier Academy, FL Youth Alliance or non-league. What is relevant is that the final non-Academy side (Plymouth) went out last night so the final eight are all FAPAL sides. The Academy sides seem to have redressed the balance this year after several shock results last season (even though we still ended up with an all FAPAL final).

Point taken but FA still seem to sort out the exemptions based on where the first teams are (unless that is same as the first two youth levels combined)

Since 98-9 the format has copied the F.A.Cup (except that Conference sides do not gain any exemptions)

thats why Mansfield won 13-0, 9-0, 6-2 and 7-0 in the four qualifying ties this season. I noticed a number of Conference sides knocking up 'cricket' scores in early rounds and this must surely get the FA to re-think exemptions in this competition.
