I stumbled upon their existence when researching quiz questions for a round on France for Wednesday and found a wikipedia page showing their team line-up for a match in 1998 with a young-looking Paul le Guen as captain.
Interesting that they played a number of games between the wars but nothing for decades thereafter. I can only assume it was another example of the French government's oppression of the Breton culture which has only just eased off. It's still a criminal offence to mention independence by the way.
The upshot is that only 300,000 now speak Breton compared to the 1.3 million that practised the language in the fifties.
