Re: [oftenscore6] Non League Champions League 2008/9 scores [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

This week, I am focussing on SL1M:

Most tipped are Leamington (13), who got back to winning ways this weekend at mid-table Romulus, after a recent wobble and midweek defeat at home to Aylesbury United (EastForkUtd). Leamington remain top, 12 points clear but having played more than the untipped Atherstone Town and Nuneaton Town (10), both of whom won twice, Nuneaton winning impressively at Aylesbury, who remain in 8th. In 4th and tipped by 7, are Chasetown, but they slipped up this weekend, losing at home to 6th placed Sutton Coldfield Town (modelhobbies, JonM), who have been gaining positions recently after an initially poor start. The remaining tipped sides are 11th placed AFC Sudbury (Bomaya,Tomschman), 2-1 losers at home to lowly Rothwell Town this weekend after a 1-0 defeat at 5th placed Marlow; and 14th placed Bromsgrove Rovers (HarryC), 2-0 winners at home to Dunstable Town.

Other key results:
York City and Stevenage Boro are into the FA Trophy semi finals.
Ebbsfleet and Wrexham face a replay after drawing 0-0.
Bognor Regis coming from behind to beat Chelmsford City
Bath City losing 1-0 at home to Hampton & Richmond
Eastwood Town winning 1-0 away at Hednesford to go 3 points clear with 3 games in hand in NPP
Durham City going 3 points clear in NP1N after a win themselves and FC Halifax Town going down 3-1 at Colwyn Bay
Retford United losing 3-2 at home to 2nd placed Belper Town in NP1S
Corby Town's win at Merthyr whilst Farnborough are held to a goalless draw at Gloucester City means Corby can go top of SLP if they win their games in hand
Two wins for Cambridge City move them up to 3rd in SLP, whilst Merthyr slip to 6th
Windsor & Eton's midweek win at Winchester took them back to the top of SL1SW
Only 1 point from 6 for Staines (at Harrow Borough and Maidstone) gives Dover a more secure lead in ILP
Margate's 3-1 win over Boreham Wood takes them out of the ILP relegation spots and drops Ramsgate back in.
Worthing losing a 21-match unbeaten run 1-0 at home to Sittingbourne

The favourites gained most this week, with 6 points, matched by Tomschman (York) and followed by Bendrix (5, Cambridge City). Those suffering were Jamesie (though Sheffield did win 7-0!) down 8 pts (Merthyr); Simon G (-5) and Vienna1964, DarrenLovell and spgrey (-4).

Overall Pat B still leads with 73, now followed by SparkyRebel (66) and myself (64). Bringing up the rear is still East Fork Utd (19), then Gray (24) and JonM (29).

Re: [oftenscore6] Non League Champions League 2008/9 scores [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

There's not so much movement to deal with this week, so I'll just mention some key results:

Ebbsfleet 3-1 Wrexham FA Trophy QF
Merthyr, Hemel and Halesowen pick up midweek and weekend points to move above Chippenham Town and Gloucester City
Chasetown 2-0 Leamington - Nuneaton & Atherstone will now overtake them if they win games in hand
Tonbridge A 1-0 Carshalton Ath
Hampton & Richmond pick up 6 pts to move clear in 2nd in Conf Sth whilst AFC Wimbledon draw at Havant & Waterlooville
Bradford PA beat Hednesford 3-0 whilst Nantwich Town beat fellow play off / NPP title contenders North Ferriby United 4-0
Recovering draws for both NP1N top 2, Durham City at Trafford (from 3-1 down) and FC Halifax Town v Colwyn Bay (1-1)
Belper follow up their win over Retford by losing at home to Lincoln United
Truro City go top of SL1SW as Windsor & Eton lose at home to AFC Hayes
Margate replace Ramsgate in the relegation spots after losing 2-0 at Wealdstone whilst Ramsgate beat Billericay Town 1-0
Aveley pick up 1 pt from 6 from 2 home games, with East Thurrock and Brentwood closing the gap
Cray Wanderers beat Worthing 2-1 whilst Merstham beat Kingstonian 2-0 at the top of IL1S
Lowestoft move into the FA Vase semi whilst Whitley Bay beat Biggleswade Tn 5-2

Overall, the biggest movers are Doody (+10, Hemel, Truro, WhitleyBay) with StokePriorAndy (Truro, Lowestoft) and howaythebay (think you can guess!Wink) up 7 each. Few tippers lost points this week, but Sarumio bucked the trend, down 5, with Bomaya -3 and JonM and Tomschman -2 each.

The top 3 and bottom 3 remain the same - PatB (75) followed by SparkyRebel (71) and myself (69). At the foot, East Fork Utd gained 3 to 22, with Gray just ahead (24) and JonM slipping back (27). HarryC moved 7 points clear of that trio (34th with 34).

Re: [oftenscore6] Non League Champions League 2008/9 scores [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Just the end results this time, had a double header this weekend.

Histon 1-1 Cambridge Utd
Hampton & Richmond 0-1 Newport County
Tamworth 1-1 Southport
Chalfont St Peter (Zebedee) knock out Needham Market (PatB, SimonG) on pens in Fa Vase
Cambridge Utd 2-0 Burton Albion
Southport 2-3 Gateshead
Hampton & Richmond 2-1 Eastleigh
Durham City 1-1 Fc Halifax
Bamber Bridge 1-0 Curzon Ashton
Rushall Olympic 2-0 Stamford
Tonbridge Angels 0-1 AFC Hornchurch
Thamesmead 2-3 East Thurrock Utd (from 2 down)
Kingstonian 0-1 Corinthian Casuals
Farbnborough 1-1 Halesowen Town
Beaconsfield SYCOB 2-0 Truro City

Most tipping scores dropped this week - most down was mnewz (-10, Truro, Aveley and Kingstonian); followed by the favourites (-8) and PatB! (-8). Only 10 tippers improved, topped by East Fork Utd (+8, Windsor, Hemel, Sittingbourne), followed by Zebedee (+6) and Bomaya, Tomschman (+5).

That left a change in leadership for the first time since the end of November! SparkyRebel takes over (70), with PatB dropping to 2nd (67), with myself remaining in 3rd (65). At the foot, all the bottom 3 sides gained points, but the order changed - East Fork Utd moved up to 3rd last (30), with JonM now 2nd from bottom (29), and Gray slipping to last (25).

Tables are as per today's NLP.

Re: [Pat B] Non League Champions League 2008/9 scores [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Well, Pat B was right, and it only took a week! Upwards moves for Torquay Utd, Halesowen Tn, Truro City and Fleet Town gained 9 points for PatB (76), enough to overtake SparkyRebel (73), who whilst gaining with some of the same tips, suffered from Chippenham Town slipping down to 7th. I remain in 3rd (70).

SLP saw a number of key games and the close table showed several changes from last week. In midweek, the top 2, Farnborough and Corby Town both scored victories, as did Gloucester City, but Chippenham lost at home to Oxford City. The weekend saw those 4 play each other though and Chippenham improved with a 1-1 draw with leaders Farnborough, whilst 2nd placed Corby Town lost 2-1 at home to Gloucester City. Elsewhere, Cambridge City won a key midweek tie with Hemel Hempstead but lost 1-0 at home to bottom placed Clevedon Town. Halesowen Town moved up into 3rd with 2 wins over struggling opposition.

The SLSW leadership merry-go-round continued with Windsor & Eton starting the week in the lead but overtaken by Truro City beating Cinderford Town 3-2 on Tuesday, then AFC Totton winning 1-0 at Taunton Town on Wednesday. AFC Totton could only draw 0-0 at Andover on the weekend though, but Windsor & Eton missed their opportunity by losing 3-1 at Cirencester Town. Truro did not, though, winning 3-2 again, this time over Uxbridge to move back to the top. The untipped Beaconsfield SYCOB stay 4th but still in close contention.

Other moves this week were Newcastle Blue Star, picking up 7 points from 3 games; Harlow Town and Hastings United wins coupled with a Ramsgate defeat at Hendon put Ramsgate back in the ILP drop zone. Tomschman's York City FA Trophy tip is looking like paying more rewards after they took a 2-0 first leg lead at AFC Telford, whilst the Stevenage & Ebbsfleet tie is in the balance.

Howaythebay had the best week, gaining an impressive 12 points (pretty much the same gains at PatB but also Newcastle Blue Star), followed by Pat B and Football Man. FootballMan did not gain from any of the same as PatB/Howaythebay - picking up points from Skelmersdale, Rushall, Gloucester, Paulton and Ashford Town. The only one to suffer this week badly was someone who could ill afford it - East Fork Utd, down 10 pts (Ramsgate, Hemel, Windsor), as Tweety lost 4 pts and several lost 3 pts (fishy, hawkwind, Sarumio, Bomaya and mnewz).

The top has already been covered - East Fork Utd returned to the foot (20), with Gray up to 2nd last (24) and JonM 3rd last (27).

Re: [oftenscore6] Non League Champions League 2008/9 scores [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I haven't covered IL1N yet, so...

The most popular pick are Ware (12), but they had a poor week losing 3-1 at home to mid-table Enfield Town (Sarumio,StokePriorAndy) midweek and 1-0 away at lowly Potters Bar yesterday, remaining 8th but having played more than those around them. The 2nd most popular picks both played relegation threatened Waltham Forest (tjathome), Redbridge surprisingly losing away 1-0 in midweek, whilst Chatham Town (modelhobbies,RRYFS,Northstandexile,HarryC) are safe already and scored a 3-0 home win. 9th placed Redbridge (Bendrix,SimonG,SandhurstBee,Felix) recovered with a 1-0 win at lowly Ilford. At the top, Aveley (mnewz) scored a key win midweek over 6th placed Concord Rangers and followed it up with a win over Enfield Town. East Thurrock (me,Zebedee,SparkyRebel) posted a midweek win over Maldon Town, but lost at home to 3rd placed Brentwood Town (Vienna1964, DarrenLovell, MadMick), allowing Aveley to overtake them. Maldon Town (Gray,EastForkUtd,tomschman) also lost yesterday to 4th placed Waltham Abbey. Concord Rangers (Jamesie, howaythebay) recovered to score an important win at 5th placed Northwood and remain well in contention for a playoff spot. That just leaves Cheshunt (fishy) of the tipped sides. Currently 10th after a win over relegation threatened Witham Town, they won't make the playoffs, but might yet score a point or two.

Other key moves:
Stevenage (MadMick,PatB,Chrisby,Doody,StokePriorAndy,Favourites) and York (tomschman) will meet in the FA Trophy final after wins over Ebbsfleet and AFC Telford
Barrow's win over Lewes coupled with a defeat to Kiddie sends Woking (HarryC) back into the Conference relegation spots
Gateshead's win over Stalybridge leaves the top 3 in Conf Nth well clear
Hampton & Richmond defeat Chelmsford 4-1 to bring them closer to AFC Wimbledon, surprise losers at home to Welling
A win for Boston United (12) over Marine moves them out of the NPP relegation spots - and puts Cammell Laird (Bomaya) into them.
Newcastle Blue Star's 3-0 win over AFC Halifax takes them 2nd in NP1N, whilst Skelmersdale's win over Colwyn Bay takes them 3rd
Gloucester City's excellent run continues with a win over Cambridge City to take them 3rd in SLP
Midweek draws for Atherstone and Nuneaton strengthen Leamington's hold on SL1M again
Fleet Town score wins over fellow contenders Kingstonian and Ashford Town to go 2nd in IL1S

MadMick gained the most this week (+11), with the favourites gaining 10, and RRYFS and Doody (+9). Losing out were Bomaya (-5), Jamesie (-4) and fishy, spgrey and tjathome (-3).

Overall that leaves Pat B clear (81) with StokePriorAndy (73) moving into 2nd and SparkyRebel 3rd (72). At the foot, East Fork Utd (21) and Gray (29) stay in the bottom 2, but JonM moves out to 33rd (34) putting HarryC (31) back in the bottom 3.

Re: [oftenscore6] Non League Champions League 2008/9 scores [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I am having a lot of trouble getting onto the main site, so this week it's just the file and overall positions.

Jamesie is the biggest winner this week, gaining 5 (4 teams rising by 1 or 2, including FCUM Cool), with Gray, Sarumio and mnewz all up 3. Slipping up are Bomaya (-7, due to Ebbsfleet in relegation spots), Tweety (-4) and howaythebay (-4).

Overall the top 3 are the same - PatB still leads (79, down 2) but StokePriorAndy closed the gap (75, up 2) with SparkyRebel staying steady 3rd (72, no change). Down at the foot, it's the same 3 too, with East Fork Utd (20) bringing up the rear and Gary and HarryC on 32 pts.

Re: [oftenscore6] Non League Champions League 2008/9 scores [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

The last division to look at is NP1S.

Most popular pick are Sheffield (11), but they will not be contesting the playoffs this season, after losing 1-0 to Lincoln United, but had a good win at Glapwell in midweek. 2nd most popular are last season's champions, Retford United (9), who drew 0-0 at Willenhall this weekend. Drawing close to them are the untipped Belper Town, 4 pts behind with 2 games in hand after a midweek win v Willenhall Town and a Saturday win at Stamford. In 3rd are Stocksbridge PS (Tweety, SandhurstBee) , 8-0 winners v Spalding, but losers at home to Rushall Olympic midweek, very likely condemning them to the playoffs. In 4th, Glapwell (modelhobbies, northstandexile) recovered from a midweek home defeat to Sheffield by winning 1-0 over mid-table Loughborough Dynamo (SimonG). 6th placed Rushall (FootballMan) did not follow up their win in their weekend game, losing 1-0 at home to Goole. 3rd most tipped were Grantham Town (Gavin, MadMick, Bendrix, spgrey, mnewz), but their season is already over in mid-table and lost 3-0 at home to Carlton Town. Also comfortably midweek are Leek Town (HarryC, tjathome), 2-0 winners at bottom placed Brigg Town (East Fork Utd). Brigg's only hope of escaping bottom place is to finish ahead of Gresley Rovers (DarrenLovell,Gray), who lost 2-1 at Quorn and will be thankful of their early season points.

Other key results:
Lowestoft Town 1-1 Whitley Bay, sending favourites Whitley Bay into the final v Glossop NE
Southport 0-1 Tamworth
Grays 1-0 York City puts York into the Conference relegation spots
Alfreton Town 2-0 Southport
Frickley 1-0 Buxton sends Buxton into the NPP relegation spots in place of Matlock, who beat Marine 4-0
Curzon Ashton beat Newcastle Blue Star, Durham City and Lancaster City (a) all in 1 week to move into a playoff spot
Skelmersdale 2-1 FC Halifax Town dumps Halifax out of the playoff spots and put Skem in 2nd

Rest to follow tomorrow

Other key results:

Aveley 1-3 Brentwood Town and East Thurrock 1-1 Concord Rangers puts East Thurrock back on top of IL1N.
2 wins for Kingstonian put them top of IL1S
Cambridge City win 2-1 over Gloucester City and 2-1 at Tiverton
Corby slip up midweek drawing at Evesham, but win 5-0 over Halesowen yesterday
Two defeats for Hemel and Gloucester
Nuneaton 2-2 Atherstone in midweek, both winning on the weekend

So for this weekOverall, the biggest gains were for SparkyRebel (+10, Curzon, E Thurrock), Gavin (7,Kingstonian, WhitleyBay) and the Favourites. SparkyRebel would have been even better off had Lowestoft beaten Whitley bay to get into the FA Vase final. Chrisby suffered the most (-8, Buxton), followed by Gray (-6, YorkCity) and DarrenLovell, SandhurstBee and JonM (-3).

Overall, the 10 point gain for SparkyRebel was enough to take him back to the top (82), with PatB now 2nd (80) and myself in 3rd (76). Down at the foot, East Fork Utd is still dead last (19), Gray (26) and JonM slips back into the bottom 3 again (31).

Changes this week were more limited, but in Conference North, Tamworth are top, but then lost at home to Stafford on Saturday. Alfreton's storming run has now taken them past Telford and they look the form team for the playoffs. Oustide of there, the only major changes were teams escaping the relegation spots - Woking after winning 2-0 at Forest Green; Buxton after winning 4-1 v local rivals Matlock Town; and Cammell Laird also overcoming local rivals Marine 3-2.

Overall, HarryC (+6, Woking) and Chrisby (+5, Buxton) did best this week; modelhobbies and FootballMan both slipped up 3 points.

Overall, both the top 3 and bottom 3 are the same.

Re: [oftenscore6] Non League Champions League 2008/9 scores [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

This week I'm going to focus on what could still happen....

Teams which could go up or down by 4 points or more:
Southport (currently 3rd, can finish 5th to 1st, Vienna, Gray, RRYFS, HarryC, davyc, East Fork Utd, StokePriorAndy, spgrey, tomschman)
Cammell Laird (currently 16th, can finish 19th, Bomaya)
FC United (currently 3rd, can finish 8th to 3rd, Northstandexile, Jamesie, Sarumio, tomschman, SparkyRebel)
Hednesford Town (currently 8th, can finish 8th to 3rd, modelhobbies, fishy)
Marine (currently 14th, can finish 19th, Tweety)
Witton Albion (currently 19th, can finish 14th, TP, Doody, Felix)
Boreham Wood (currently 18th, can finish 19th, fishy)
Margate (currently 19th, can finish 16th, Zebedee)
Worthing (currently 5th, can finish 5th to 2nd, Gray, Bendrix)

At the top, SparkyRebel is 6 points clear (83) of myself and Pat B (77 each). Given the possibilities left, the worst Sparky can do is 61 points - but actually he has more at risk than Pat B or myself, who will finish with at least 62. Comparing the top 3, we all have Torquay, Telford, Curzon and Truro. Key battlegrounds in the title race will be NPP, where 3rd to 8th are only 2 points apart. Sparky has FC United, whilst Pat B and I went for BPA. One I would be happy for BPA to lose though as the teams play each other next Saturday!; NP1S where Sparky and PatB have Retford United, who could yet be overtaken by Belper Town (my tip was Sheffield); SLP where Chippenham (Sparky) are vulnerable to a 3 point penalty but otherwise could make the playoffs, Halesowen (PatB) can't make the playoffs but could advance back to 6th whilst for me it is only how Cambridge City do in the playoffs; IL1N where top placed East Thurrock (Sparky, myself) host 2nd placed Aveley who are 2 points behind - PatB's tip was Ware; the FA Trophy final (PatB has Stevenage); and final positions and playoff performance for Fleet Town (PatB and myself) and Chasetown (Sparky).

Please find attached an updated table (previous scores will not show this interim update).

Chippenham's points deduction (and consequent rising of Halesowen) has seen a tightening at the top, with SparkyRebel now just 2 points clear of PatB and 3 ahead of me, with StokePriorAndy still within striking distance 8 back.

I have included the potential points for each team (excluding playoffs).

Alas, my computer is in for repair this weekend, so I will not be able to update again until at least MondayShocked.

Sadly my laptop is really struggling, I can only log in when using a docking station and I am out of the office this week. Hopefully a chance tomorrow. Sorry folks, I'll get it sorted as soon as I can.(Posted via mobile)

Borrowed a docking station...

Most teams suffered a slump this week, with the largest gains being only 2 points. Tomschman suffered most, down 10 pts, but SparkyRebel also lost 8. That reduces his lead (75) over PatB to a single point (74), with myself third with 71. JonM escapes the bottom 3 (30), with HarryC slipping in at an untimely moment (27). EastForkUtd's wooden spoon (22) was sealed on the weekend with Gray (26) also having one of the same playoff competitors (Southport).

I have made a change on the score details page - yellow is now for teams in the playoffs and there is a count of potential points which could be gained (3 for FA comp winners, 1 for playoff final winners), which is also on the current score table. Teams will not lose points from here on.

Obviously, when you gain points, others may do also, so whilst Doody may be able to get more points than Sparky Rebel currently has, to do so would mean PatB also gains enough to go past Doody's highest potential total. But there are still a few outside the top 3 in with a shout.

EDIT: Checking back, JonM's rules said demoted / folds were due -5 points. Clearly this needs a cutoff date - I am taking Conf playoff final date - but was this also intended to apply to failed ground grading and voluntary relegation? The latter affects the wooden spoon actually, as Gray has Gresley Rovers. None of the teams at the top are affected. Please comment if you have an opinion.

My suggestion is that teams folding or taking voluntary demotion at the end of the season (i.e. not having results expunged from the records) should be simply counted for game purposes in the actual positions in which they finish.

Those affected by mid-season expungements should certainly get those '-5's !

I APOLOGISE UNRESERVEDLY TO EACH AND EVERY PERSON ON THIS FORUM WHO HAS FELT LET-DOWN BY MY INIMICABLE AND DEPLORABLE BEHAVIOUR OF OCTOBER 28th. 2009. ESPECIALLY TO BRIAN, WHO IS A MARVELLOUS GENTLEMAN AND IS THE LAST PERSON HERE WHO SHOULD HAVE TO PUT UP WITH SUCH UNDESERVED PERSONAL CHARACTER-ASSASSINATION. LET IT BE KNOWN THAT A PRIVATE PERSONAL APOLOGY WAS SENT, BUT WAS SEEN INSUFFICIENT. FAIR ENOUGH.

Can I add to that: I think that teams which are currently on -5 for being relegated, and are then reprieved, should remain on -5. i.e. Brigg.

No question on that, TP. JonM's rules stated that any reprieved team still got -5. I am proposing to follow Vienna's suggestion re voluntary and ground demotions.

Wooden spoons aren't so bad...I cook with them all the time! I have to admit that I frequently visit oftenscore6's post just after the Christmas and New Year's holiday where "meteoric rise" was linked to my screen name--ah, heady days, indeed. Does this mean that I get relegated to predicting British prep school games next year, or can I still "run with the big dogs"? When the outcome of this season was looking more concrete, the demon Mad in me was hoping some players ahead of me would go into administration so as to save myself! A couple of cups of coffee and a good smoke helped clear my head of that thought Angelic though. Thanks again to oftenscore6 for keeping tabs on the season and the other competitors for playing. Hope to do it again for the 09-10 season.

One point of note - you were the only one to pick Burton for the conference !

Re: [vienna1964] Non League Champions League 2008/9 scores [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I've done an attachment including all results to date - Histon v Torquay being played as I write.

4 tipsters have gained 3 points as a result of playoff wins - TP (Nuneaton, Didcot & Staines); Darren Lovell (Nuneaton, Staines & Cray); and Tweety and SandhurstBee (Stocksbridge, Didcot & Staines).

As a result, the bottom 6 positions will not change further, irrespective of remaining games. But reprieves are hereby issued to HarryC, Gray and East Fork Utd! Wink

At the top, the race is down to 2 as I am unable to catch Pat B and SparkyRebel. Actually, because of the selections they have, the championship title will come down to one game - the FA Trophy final. If Stevenage win, the extra 3 points for FA Trophy winners will see PatB take the title, whilst a York City win see SparkyRebel triumph.

Doody, Favourites and FootballMan all have 4 selections left - FootballMan's being generally less popular, with Cambridge, Gateshead and Hampton plus Whitley Bay. However, with all the teams immediately above having Whitley Bay, FootballMan can only surpass howaythebay into 8th.

As I have been doing all season, if two teams are level, then the one submitted first is placed higher.

I am opening another thread for comments / possible improvements for 2009/10, which I am happy to run again.
