He scored 105 goals in 193 appearances in the French League but his main claim to fame is that he made a world record 47 substitute appearances in a final cap tally of 88 internationals.

This person is a "fraud" according to one internet site - cap your "adopted" Granny ?. He is now famous for playing poker. His former international manager called him the Ice Cream Seller ?. He can be heard on the Radio alongside a number of his former international teamates and a portly Evertonian.

Coincidentally Pauleta also made 88 international appearances, although 47 was the number of goals he scored rather than times he came on as sub. Pauleta is living proof that you don't have to have previously played for Gillingham to be a heavy goal scorer in France.

If this player was a fraud by not being eligible to play for his country, should not his countrys' records/results in major football tournaments be expunged from the record books.
e.g England elevated to third place in their 1988 european championship group and Rumania elevated to quarter finalists in the 1990 world cup.

If it aint broke don't fix it

From Wikipedia

********* was born in England but represented the Republic of Ireland, qualifying through his Irish grandfather. However, he later revealed that his mother told him in 1996 that she was adopted and therefore no blood relative to the grandfather. ********* said in his autobiography: "I didn't qualify for Ireland. I was a fraud. A fake Irishman".
