What links these five players ? Can't Post or Reply Privately

Here goes then, not sure how long this will last but what is the connection that links these 5 former international players which they do not share with any other international players.
Answer is similar along the lines of the previous thread.

1) Georgie Haji -Rumania 2) Lothar matthaus -Germany 3) Dragan Stojkavic - Yugoslavia, 4) Michael Laudrup-Denmark
5) Enzo Scifo - Belgium

No nothing to do with scoring against England or scoring at a certain stadium.

No but a very good answer, Scifo was not the oldest Belgian player to represent his country

This maybe so, but I would have included all players with most appearances for their country. It is a link exclusive to those 5 players.

Were their first and last appearances for their country 15 years or more apart? IE the longest International Careers in years rather than caps.

Again a very good answer, but not the answer I am looking for as there are other players who had longer international careers and could have been included in my initial list. The answer is connected to their playing careers.
I am going to give a clue and say that there is a french connection to the answer.

This may be so, but again not the answer I am looking for as many other players would have played their last game for their country in the last world cup finals to be held in france. The answer just links/connects those 5 players.

No nothing to do with big brother, it is a french connection which involves their playing careers.

Ah! Is it that they are the only players who featured in both the European Championships of 1984 and the World Cup of 1998, both held in France?

Or further, are they the only people who have ever played in two separate tournaments held in the same country? Did anyone play in both Mexico 70 and 86? Or Germany Euro 88 and WC 2006?

Re: [ash] What links these five players ? [In reply to] Can't Post or

There were several players that appeared in the 1980 European Championships and the 1990 World Cup Finals, both held in Italy (Shilton, Ceulemans, Baresi for starters), and no doubt countless South American played that played in the Copa America of 1949 and the World Cup Finals of 1950 in Brazil.

While your initial answer is surely correct, as far as I am aware only one other player, Andoni Zubizaretta, was named in their nation's squad for both tournaments in France. However, he didn't play during the 1984 Euros.
