Edgar Street falls into the category of "old-fashioned ground". I've passed it many times, but this was my first time attending a match there. There are no cash turnstiles, you must purchase a ticket from the ticket office first. A slight delay at work meant that time was a bit tight, not getting to the ground until around 10 minutes before kick off, and I was a little concerned that I'd miss the start when I saw the queues at the ticket office, but thankfully the service was quick, and I made it onto the terrace with about 2 minutes to spare.
Gateshead had much the better of the first half, number 9, Kayode, on loan from Rotherham, unsettled the home defence with his pace, but ta half of few clear cut chances ended 0-0.
The visitors went ahead on 61 minutes. Kayode went on a powerful run, and his shot hit the post before striking the back of the unfortunate keeper and rebounding into the net.
Both Hereford goals came from defensive lapses. On 65 minutes, a low cross should have been a routine clearance for Heed's player manager Mike Williamson, but he completely missed his kick, allowing Nicholson to tap in at the far post.
5 minutes into the 6 allocated minutes of stoppage time, Hereford got their winner. The keeper started to come for a through ball, then changed his mind and was caught in no mans land. Nicholson squared the ball for substitute O'Sullivan to fire into an unguarded net.
