2018-19 Name Changes, Mergers & Closures or Reply Privately

Right starting this thread a bit earlier this year as theres been quite a few announcements already affecting the new season, and hopefully we've seen the last of the resignations and expunged records in 2017-18 now.

I am concentrating on those clubs at Step 1-7 at present but as always please report on ANY club of note further down.

Lets hope this thread is less busy this year, but sadly I don’t think it will be.

Closures
AFC Brodsworth Welfare
AFC Southgate
Buckingham Town
Olney Town
Thurrock

Mergers
Killingworth Town and Killingworth Young Peoples’ Centre merge to form...name not yet released
Ossett Albion and Ossett Town merge to form Ossett United

Name changes
Radcliffe Borough change their name to Radcliffe
Waltham Forest change their name to Walthamstow

Unknowns / Futures in doubt
Aigburth People’s Hall - Last seven games of the season awarded to opponents.
Swanwick Pentrich Road - Resigned from the Central Midlands League but intentions beyond that not yet known. They'll either fold or re-join the MRA.

Leagues Closing
Luton & South Bedfordshire League
Maidstone & District League

And still eagerly anticipating the annual name change for Woodford Town 2017!

I wonder if Brodsworth are considering a return to the Doncaster Senior League for 2018/19?

And let me guess, a groundshare with Great Wakering Rovers thereby allowing them into the new Step 6 Eastern Senior League ?

The closure of the Luton & District South Beds Football League has been confirmed this week. On the other hand it seems from news today that Buckingham Town has been brought back from the brink and will be in the UCL next season.

A weird thing has happened with their record on the CML Full-time pages, their record in the table remains but get the fixture grid up and all results have disappeared!

Edit: The same thing has happened with Swanwick PR reserves from Division One

I am not entirely certain/convinced it is a merger in the true sense.

On the face of it, it just appears that last year’s Oakengates Athletic management team are upping sticks, saying they cannot take Oakengates any further, and are moving to Wellington Amateurs. As a result, the general feeling at Oakengates is that they’ve all taken the club as far as it can go now, and are packing in.

I’m not convinced its anything more than that at present. Certainly, it seems Oakengates Athletic as a club is closing, but whether any of their resources, equipment, players, committee members, etc etc are actually merging with Wellington is another matter entirely.

Maybe someone else can shed some light.

You would expect maybe a name change, badge re-design, proper announcement etc if it were an actual merger, and not just a disbanding club’s remnants being absorbed by a neighbouring club!

I see your point. It's almost like a takeover of a club whilst the old club dies.

I saw a post on Facebook recently saying that Maesgwyn had played their last game following the council's decision to evict them from where they played last season. Further down there was a comment saying that the group of players were staying together but not under the name Maesgwyn.
Don't know if this constitutes a name change, or Maesgwyn folding and a new club comprising of the same players being formed. In the meantime the main man at Maesgwyn has been appointed reserves manager at FC Queens Park.

Tweeted today by Melksham Town that they are going to close down their 'B' team who play in the Trowbridge & District Div 2 with the management team moving up to manage the 'A' team who will still play in Division 1.
The Sunday team has formally disbanded too as Mike Rogers, the manager, has retired and so they will cease playing in the Chippenham & District Sunday League.
All partially to do with "expense" of running 5 teams but also to free up Pitch #2 at Oakfield for more games

Hazlerigg Victory are folding their Saturday side, Sunday team still going. They've tweeted that their place in the Northern Alliance Premier (they finished in a promotion place in Division One last season) will be taken by Newcastle Blue Star. No idea if there's any deeper connection than that, or if the new Blue Star is any relation to the old one.

In the Trowbridge & District, Luxol St Andrews are tweeting that, if they don't find a new manager by the end of this week, the club will fold. Great shame for a magnificently named club and a shame for the Rec at Lacock which is one of the more restful places to watch football.

Bit of a late season cull in the Chippenham & District Sunday League...

Clubs folding...

PREMIER
Athleticow Moodrid
Somerford FC
Melksham Town (Sunday)

DIVISION TWO
The Castle, Devizes FC

That takes it to 7 over the last 2 seasons with no replacements...may need a reduction to Premier, Divisions One and Two only now...

Given that Reading isn't a city, and unlike Guildford or Southwell doesn't have a cathedral which is sometimes mistakenly taken to confer city status in itself, does this qualify as one of the daftest name changes ever?

Yes, though BHA weren't long out of League 1 when the idea was first raised and Whitehawk's ambitions only seemed to stretch to reaching average gates of 1,000. Anyway, correcting myself, it seems Whitehawk dropped the plan themselves after opposition from their own fans, rather than being refused permission. Although BHA were being particularly arsey about it... I agree it's doubtful Reading will be the same, not least because of the misnomer in using the word 'city'.

I'm a little suprised that they've changed their name, but hopefully it can be of some help for them to get a more established support within the town. I doubt too many round here know where Highmoor is, and those that do probably wouldn't expect a team with that name to be playing in Reading. I agree that Reading Ibis would be a better name as it's unusual, but does reflect the history of the club.

Chelmsford managed to be a City club long before city status was conferred there, and given the current rate of awarding city status surely it will happen eventually. Though whether Reading City are around to see that day is a different matter. I hope they are (or the current way of awarding city status is changed).

If they do this well, it'll hopefully lead to more people attending football at Scours Lane. And that can only be a good thing for non-league football in the town and in the Hellenic.

If they do this well, it'll hopefully lead to more people attending football at Scours Lane. And that can only be a good thing for non-league football in the town and in the Hellenic.

Are there any clubs retaining a Town in their name that are now cities.
Derby is not a County, though I believe the FA refused Derbyshire County as a name, the club was formed as an offshoot of the cricket club. The FA thought his would cause confusion

Well there was a Reading Town in the 1990s so probably could not use that name. Reading Ibis would have been better but 'City' is simply untrue.

It has gladdened me today that the 1990s were only 3 years ago. Wink

Presumably not as there are Guildford City and Brechin City FCs (any others?) based in towns that do not have city status.

Brechin was historically a city, Guildford was regarded as a city for several hundred years as it has a cathedral.

So although, neither has city status in the present day they have a history of being at least regarded as cities in the past. The same is true of Southwell (due to its cathedral and the diocese) and Rochester (who lost city status due to an apparent administration/clerical error 20 years ago).

Reading has never been considered a city, informally or otherwise, it has always, always, always been a standard English town!

There is no forest in Nottingham, I have not come across any moors in Solihull recently, Newport is not a county, none of the various Wanderers or Rovers seem to do any wandering or roving any more and there was precious little athleticism on display in Oldham last season. So, basically, you can call yourself what you like (within the bounds of common decency). But, from posts elsewhere, the FA still have to give the name-change the go-ahead, and have in the past not accepted certain names. And, presumably the whole point of the exercise in the first place, the general awareness of HI/RC has already been raised considerably!

But I guess if you can call yourself Hashtag United, then pretty much anything will doSmile.

I see facts should not get in the way of a good story

The Olympic Stadium , unfit as it is for football , nonetheless is as far as I know in the London Borough of Newham made up of the old West Ham and East Ham Boroughs and specifically in the bit which was West Ham

The Boleyn it is true however stood approx 50 yards outside the borough boundary in the old East Ham for which apparently West Ham the football club will never be forgiven.

You're surely not suggesting that Guildford was regarded as a city for several hundred years before the building of its mid C20th cathedral? The dioceses of Guildford and Portsmouth were carved out of Winchester in 1927, Southwark having been created earlier also from part of that vast diocese which, unlike Lincoln among others, escaped changes in the time of Henry VIII.

Are they still pretending they were formed in 1863?

and wasn't their name Bradford FC, and weren't they a Rugby Union club before until 1895 when they started playing Northern (now League) and the Association game? Then they went purely football in 1907 when they joined the Southern League?

They only became Bradford (Park Avenue) in 1907 to distinguish themselves from Bradford City.

So a return to the original name would see them purely as Bradford FC

Tiptree Engaine doesn't make any sense! Why do clubs do this?

Engaine is part of the name of the village of Colne Engaine.

If Lyme Regis and Bridport merged - they wouldn't call themselves Bridport Regis.

Can't they just have a logical name like Tiptree & Colne/Colne Engaine.

Tiptree Engaine does not exist and thus does not make any sense!

Plus the fact they've not played at Park Avenue for nigh on half a century and never will do as the former pitch now houses a gym and changing rooms and nets for the adjacent cricket ground which is having a wedge of investment to try and tempt Yorkshire back. It appears he is, but it is not clear whether MK City and/or MK Dons is meant to justify the change or to damn it.

Do any of our correspondents know the pasy of Highmoor/Ibis - Ibis refers to the sports association of Prudential Insurance, whose fields are practically next to the Scours Lane ground. Is Highmoor a village near Nettlebed? At least 20 minutes drive away?

Does Highmoor Ibis continue under that name in Thames Valley League

I’ve seen a number of lists of club line ups for the new Eastern Senior League South in various places, including one that was produced after the confirmed constitution at today’s AGM, and in all of them I have consistently seen Lopes Tavares London referred to as Lopes Tavares, Fire United Christian referred to as Fire United, Frenford Senior referred to as Frenford and May & Baker Eastbrook Community Club referred to as May & Baker. Have all four of these clubs changed their name or is it just a case of laziness when the Leagues Committee issued the original provisional allocations list?

I’ve seen a number of lists of club line ups for the new Eastern Senior League South in various places, including one that was produced after the confirmed constitution at today’s AGM, and in all of them I have consistently seen Lopes Tavares London referred to as Lopes Tavares, Fire United Christian referred to as Fire United, Frenford Senior referred to as Frenford and May & Baker Eastbrook Community Club referred to as May & Baker. Have all four of these clubs changed their name or is it just a case of laziness when the Leagues Committee issued the original provisional allocations list?

Frenford have definitely dropped the ‘Senior’ suffix. Sure they played as plain Frenford FC this season.

Yes, just checked that and you are correct. The club badge still says Frenford Senior though!

The club's own website refers to the club as May and Bakers FC.

Does this imply that such is properly the club's name? Or have they rather embarrassingly got their own name wrong on their website?

The club changed from M & B Club to May & Bakers Eastbrook Community a couple of seasons ago. The company they were named after were either May & Bakers or May and Baker's. Definately a S on the end in every correspondence I have seen about the company or club over the years.

My grandad used to work for M&B many many years ago and locally the company was often referred to as May and Bakers - people adding an 's' to the end of the proper name. Much in the same way that people add an 's' to Marks and Spencer(s) when there isn't one.

The club badge shows May & Baker FC but whether next season they will drop the Eastbrook Community (EC) title I don't know.

At last night’s East Midlands Counties Football League AGM it was announced that Holbrook Sports was resigning from the league.

Holbrook finished 14th last term and looked to have turned a corner following a difficult 2016/17 campaign but they have decided to resign from the league with their future now up in the air.

Not club related, but I've seen confirmation of the closure of the Luton District League, and I think the Maidstone & District League has too as there's a couple of clubs in the Rochester & District League.

Also, whilst doing my regular checks of leagues, the Portsmouth League has become the Mid Solent League.

Not sure if 'Football ID FC' will be sharing at Calne Town or not as they played their last few games of last season at Stanley Park, Chippenham. It may explain the close connection to the former Chip'num Town Youffs team that played there too.

Bremhill, Pulse Academy or Footy ID (stupid name for a club)..... Who knows what they'll be called when the season starts up! When I watched them last season, they had a few parentals & wags but no 'fans' as such. IMHO they don't really add much to the Wiltshire League, but I guess they're desperate to make the numbers up any way they can.

You could well be right. The Chippenham Youth/Pulse U-18 winners of the floodlit youth cup (2-1 over MT's lads) have moved over to the Somerset League with Bradford Town U-18. However the League has gained some teams to compensate.

Yes they did! It was announced weeks ago on this very forum.

They were not included in the SCL Step 6 constitutions released by the FA. Nor were they in the Step 7 constitutions released by the FA a couple of weeks later.

I have no knowledge of them folding, only the resignation from the Southern Combination.

So if they haven't folded, they may appear in the constitution for the Mid Sussex League when they release it.

Although they won't be in that league's premier division, as that has been released!

Down in the Blackburn Combination, the team that went unbeaten for their 2 seasons back in the league Holei'th'wall (who became Beehive last season) have folded after winning Div 2. The manager and everyone who was left moved to East Lancs League team Read United:

https://twitter.com/.../1006151951657197568

This means that Read United have a new twitter account https://twitter.com/ReadFootballCl1

It is so complicated working out what twitter account refers to which version of each team, especially those with several historic accounts. Pity leagues don't list latest twitter feeds with latest web sites etc

Appeared to have jumped the gun on this one. Maesgwyn and their reserves are shown in the tables for the 2018-19 Welsh National League.

.... been given a bit of inside 'gen' - not sure if this has been picked up elsewhere and I've been off-line during the WC Cool

Would appear Reading City, as will be, will run a Firsts and 'Development' side only - not sure at which level the latter will sit in the TVL-P

...the other two/three (?) representative Sat sides: Reserves, 'A' & 'B' etc are (possibly) being broken up.

Reportedly approaches have been made to other TVLP clubs, below the Senior Division, with a view to merger/absorption - one way or another.

Will post more that is postable - when I hear it Tongue

I saw a post on Facebook recently saying that Maesgwyn had played their last game following the council's decision to evict them from where they played last season. Further down there was a comment saying that the group of players were staying together but not under the name Maesgwyn.
Don't know if this constitutes a name change, or Maesgwyn folding and a new club comprising of the same players being formed. In the meantime the main man at Maesgwyn has been appointed reserves manager at FC Queens Park.

Appeared to have jumped the gun on this one. Maesgwyn and their reserves are shown in the tables for the 2018-19 Welsh National League.

Or not, Maesgwyn have now disappeared from the WNL website. Have been told that new club in the North East Wales League, Erddig Nomads is the same group of players.

Also Mostyn Dragons have folded from the North East Wales League.

EDIT - it's to do with funding and, although not yet clear if they'll carry on at step 7 or lower, it sounds like they'll be focusing on BUCS football and such like from now on.

Stroud Harriers have folded their first team in the GNSL. Their team in Stroud League Division becomes their first team.

According to the local paper, Harriers had won 7 promotions in the eight seasons prior to their demise.

This practice was well known when I was younger. A team would start in the lowest division of the local league, win medals and promotions for four or five years and then fold as soon as they had reached their level

The players would then join or form a lower division team and start the process again.

The WRCAL has already lost a club: newcomers Toller FC (from the Bradford Sunday Alliance) have folded after the club imploded. Several of their players are moving on to Thornton United of the YAL. That won't go down well with the YAL committee because Toller had been accepted by the that league and placed in a division for 2018-19 - unfortunately they hadn't told them they had also applied for and been accepted into the WRCAL.

As predicted locally Mousehole 3rds have withdrawn from Cornwall's Trelawny League after the 'new' club Marazion were elected. Mousehole tried to oust Penzance from Penlee Park and after that failed, they now have staked a claim at Trevenner by forming Marazion which will be last season's Mousehole 3rds.

Witheridge have resigned from the SW Peninsula League.

"We write this letter with great sadness but despite all the efforts of the club officers and management we have been unable to secure enough players to sustain a side in the SW Peninsula League and therefore with immense regret we would like to tender our resignation from the league .

We would like to thank in particular the efforts of Roger Bonaparte, Peter North, Andy Comerford and those players who have shown some loyalty and commitment but feel it wise to make this decision now before teams suffer losing points and goals in the near future."

We wish you all well for the forth coming season and hope maybe we will be able to take our place amongst the many friends we have made over the past 11 years"

This thread is getting confusing. The title relates to closures but the last few posts refer to teams withdrawing, rather than clubs folding.

Cosby Utd have certainly announced that they will be fielding a team in Division 2 next season.

What is the situation with Perry St and Witheridge ? Have the clubs folded or will they still be fielding teams in the Perry St & Dist and Devon & Exeter Leagues respectively ?

Apparently they have 'found' a Manager, a soldier from the RAVC camp up the road and the LSL are letting them in without incurring a fine. How the Manager will find 15 players at such short notice only he will know. The best of luck, he'll need it!

Re: [Richard Rundle] 2018-19 Name Changes, Mergers & Closures or Reply Privately

Some I've picked up on in the last week that I don't recall seeing elsewhere (apologies if they have!)

Bridgend & District League
D2 - Brynna reserves have come in, but teams from Garw and Llangynwyd drop out.

Bristol & District League
D3 - The Talbot Knowle United reserves have gone
D4 - Yate Athletic have been added
D5 - Fry Club "C" have been added, but Hanham Athletic "A", Nicholas Wanderers "B" and Wick "A" have all gone.

Bristol & Suburban League
Premier 2 - Fry's Club OB, Glenside 5 OB and Oldbury FC have gone, with AFC Brislington res and MPK Lofts promoted to fill two of the gaps.
There are loads of knock-on promotions (and a few new reserve/"A" teams) lower down.

Brighton, Worthing & District
Division 2 - The Railway are a late addition.

Cambridgeshire County League
Senior A - lost Fowlmere, Haverhill Borough res and Soham Town Rangers res
3A - Girton United reserves have gone
4C - March Rangers have resigned

Central & S Norfolk League
Division 1 - Attleborough Town's "A" team are no longer listed in the table
Division 4 - Foulsham have resigned

Cirencester & District League
Stratton Albion have withdrawn.

Colchester & East Essex League
Premier Division - Bradfield Rovers res are a late addition.

Coventry Alliance
Division One - AEI Rugby reserves are no longer shown

Duchy League
Division Four - Lanreath have been added. Shown as "First Team" but as far as I know they still operate in the East Cornwall League.

East Berks League
Division Two - Willow Wanderers have disappeared.

East Riding County League
Division Five - Hull Cosmos are a late addition.

East Sussex League
Two teams are no longer listed - Ore Athletic in the Premier Division and West Hill United res in Division Five

Guildford & Woking Alliance
Premier Division - Swinley Forest have gone
Division One - Burpham have gone, taking their reserves place in Division Two
Division Two - as well as Burpham res, Hammer United are no longer showing
Division Three - still 12 clubs, but this is where Burpham res have landed, replacing Ripley Village "A"
Division Four - more Burpham news, their "A" team have resigned

Halifax & District League
Division One - Ivy House have gone
Division Two - FC Ovenden are missing, while Elland United have dropped down to Division Three

Harrogate & District League
Division Two - Kirkby Malzeard reserves have been added late.

Herefordshire County League
Division One - Woofferton have withdrawn
Division Two - Burghill Rangers have also gone

Huddersfield & District League
Division One - Scholes 3rd team have been added (they already had a team in Division Two which is also still there)
Reserve Division Three - Honley "A" have been moved from Reserve Division Four
Reserve Division Four - Hepworth United res and 3D Dynamos "A" have been added, as have Scholes 3rd team (see Division One!)

Lancs & Cheshire Amateur League
Division C - Deans Youth & Ladies have become just Deans, Didsbury "A" have disappeared.

Leicestershire Senior League
Division Two - both Barleston St Giles Development and Highfield Rangers res are no longer listed.

And finally, not a name change/merger or closure but worthy of mention:

Peterborough & District League
I haven't seen this confirmed yet, but I believe Warboys Town have been struggling at the start of the season, and have been granted a two-division drop to basically save the club.

AFC Monton have resigned from the Manchester League. Premier Division (Step 7).

FA Find a Club suggests they had a reserve side in the Manchester League also but looking thorugh all the divisions I can;t fnd their reserve side.

So I assume with no second side AFC Monton have effectively folded.

I've got them down in Division Three but must have folded since I have seen the original constitution. On the new FullTime site they're listed in both the Premier Division and Division Three.

They have eleven youth teams so the club will continue, just not at open age level.

They are still present in the Full Time table and the very reason I do not like to remove from NLM Results/Fixtures.

Can be difficult sometimes to determine results one they have been expunged and the need to recreate should the resignation be changed for any reason.

Which is the very reason i didn't post it on NLM Main Site.It has happened already this season with an LSL side retracting a resignation, done without a game being played i believe so no problems in keeping things updated.

Whyke United Reserves seem to have gone from D5S.

Sad to see the almost inevitable departure of Newton Flotman from Anglian Combination Division 5 South. This leaves just 12 teams in the division.

Oldbury United have folded in WMRL Division 2.

Any further news/info on this supposed closure of Oldbury United?

Can't find anything about it online at present...where did you hear it from? Is it definite?

WMRL twitter reported it on Saturday as reason for game being canned.

EDIT.
Club have gone 'for the forseeable future' and players rumoured to have gone to Cradley Town.

--------
--------
Oldbury United yesterday appointed a new manager so fairly safe to assume they are sticking it out in WMRL 2.

Suffolk and Ipswich league - from the League website -

Kingsfleet United have withdrawn from the league with immediate effect.
All their scheduled matches have been cancelled and Saxmundham Sports Reserves will receive a bye to the 3rd Round of the Club Colours Cup.
The club have endured a short stay in the league having joined us in Division 4 as Trimley Sports & Social Club in 2017. They achieved a second placed finish and promotion to Division 3 in their first season. Following a change of name to Kingsfleet United, the club have struggled on and off the pitch and will bow out with a single point from their first four games.

Two casualties in the Kent County League as both Aylesford and Bromley Green fold.

Meanwhile Woodnesborough have also resigned from the league, but their reserves continue on in the Sevenoaks & District League - now effectively the firsts.

And over in Oxfordshire, Witney & District League side Chipping Norton Town have gone from the Premier Division, but again, their reserves are still going a couple of divisions down!

Grimethorpe Sports, who last year threatened to rename themselves as Grimethorpe & Athersley Sports (they went as far as getting a new club badge knocked up and put on their new kit), have been renamed as Grimethorpe LLUK after returning to the village from their groundshare at Athersley.

LLUK stands for Love Life UK - a charity set-up by former pro Bruce Dyer, who has been active in trying to renovate the sports ground in Grimethorpe. Fair play to him.

I don't think the name change will kick in until next year, but their social media pages have the LLUK suffix.

I doubt it --- far too busy playing 'Twenty Questions'.

The Spartan South Midland League operates on a 'need to know' basis and will always put out the absolute minimum of information it thinks it can get away with.

KB's loyalty will always be to the League, and to the blazers, rather than to those who turn up at the gate, to pay their money and watch the football.

It is what it is.

According to their own Twitter feed as of yesterday Reading YMCA have announced their resignation from the Thames Valley Premier with immediate effect.

Bit of a shocker considering their imperious form over the last three seasons.

Local 'rumblings' would suggest the root cause of this could be disciplinary from within the squad.
No info relating to the future of their 'Rapids' side or any other under the YMCA umbrella - not sure how many there are this season.

Speaking to another TVL-P contact it is thought to be a growing concern across this league and the fines system is driving many clubs to the brink.

Further to Stockton & Codford not starting the season, Lambrock Rangers have folded mid season it seems. They’ve not played for over a month & all results have been expunged. Many will have done the ground already however as Trow Wanderers played their Wilts Lge games there.

Bizarre set of reasons. The only one that remotely makes sense is the player availability one.
They seem surprised that this season they have to play games away from home!
The reorganisation locally is a complete red herring, as there is no chance of them having to play outside the current league boundary next season.

A sad, sad day for me personally having watched most of their home games since moving down here 6 years ago. Player availability has been a major issue for the club over the last couple of seasons. it doesn't help when half the players have departed for North Devon league sides who offer money for playing !!
It has been known for a while that things were not right within the club. The reserve team manager hasn't helped by refusing to allow his players to play for the firsts. A couple of very dedicated people have given a lot to keep the team running at Peninsula League level but if players will not commit then its left them with little choice but to call it a day.

Amateur Football Combination (Old Boys League)

There have been a number of teams withdrawing due to whole teams transferring to different clubs. These days the teams act almost as independent units within the club name.

The most noticeable resignation this season has been Old Egbertians a club with 5 teams 2 years ago has folded. Sad indictment of modern day amateur football.

The question should be why the league allowed them to disband the first team rather than the reserves.

The Berks & Bucks FA have approved a request for a change of name from Spartan South Midland League club Buckingham Town. The club will be known as Milton Keynes Borough FC, the change to take effect 'early in the new year'.

The change of name has now been approved by both the FA and the Berks & Bucks FA.
However the name listed above has changed again.

As of Monday 14th January the club will be known as MILTON KEYNES ROBINS FC.

I am currently awaiting for the County to make the changes on Whole Game System in order that Full Time can be amended

Brave decision, clubs who change their name to Milton Keynes something do not have a good record of longevity.
Belsize changed name to Milton Keynes Borough in 1976, folded 1993
Bletchley Town changed to Milton Keynes City in 1974, folded 1984
Mercedes Benz also changed to Milton Keynes City in 1998, folded 2003
Wolverton Town changed to Milton Keynes Wolverton Town then changed it back again in 1990 (now Unite FC)

What makes you say that? On the face of it and from what I know of the situation, Buckingham Town have lost their home, having been evicted 7 years ago from their home since 1883. They have been unable to find another site in Buckingham and have been playing at a ground in Milton Keynes as a result. With seemingly no options on the table for them to ever move back to Buckingham (which is a very small town and has already has a thriving non-league side in Buckingham Athletic, the obvious choice was to give up the dream of returning to their routes and look to the future (something you accuse them of doing the opposite of strangely) and accept that Milton Keynes is where their future lies.

I shouldn’t think for one minute that this is what the club wanted or tactically planned and deep down those close to the club, or with a historical association with it will be deeply upset and unhappy about it. But seemingly circumstance has led them to where they are, acceptance of said situation has sunk in, and so to me the name change makes logical sense and shuts the door on lingering thoughts and longing feelings about a return to Buckingham, which only serve to keep the club on a negative footing and distracting it from building a better future.

The use of the suffix Robins is a nice touch in my opinion, it acknowledges where the club started from, where its heart was for over 130 years, and retains that important link and identity.

Re: [Sarumio] 2018-19 Name Changes, Mergers & Closures or Reply Privately

All that you say is acceptable, and fair comment --- or it would be, if it happened to be true. But it doesn't --- it is romantic nonsense.

Buckingham Town FC, founded in 1883, folded in May 2018 when chairman Vince Hyde resigned his position.

The outfit currently known as 'Buckingham Town', (and soon to be Milton Keynes Robins), are nothing whatsoever to do with Buckingham Town FC, (founded 1883), or, indeed, the town of Buckingham. They are simply a bunch of football 'enthusiasts', (for want of a better term), from Milton Keynes, who want to run a step 5 football club in Milton Keynes without having to go through all the usual procedures. You know, all the tedious and time-consuming stuff like winning games, gaining promotions, upgrading facilities, etc. Instead they have found themselves a much shorter route to step 5, by the simple expedient of 'acquiring' the necessary deeds and paperwork pertaining to Buckingham Town FC, (founded 1883), and thus claiming their place in the pyramid.

How has this happened ? It is suggested, in some quarters, that a sum of money has changed hands. I am not in a position to confirm this, but, knowing some of the characters involved, I wouldn't be at all surprised. This has of course taken place under the very noses of the lazy and uninterested blazers of the Spartan South Midland League, who, as usual when one of their member clubs is in trouble, simply look the other way.

I might add that Buckingham University, who some years ago evicted Buckingham Town FC, (founded 1883), from their Ford Meadow ground, have, in the light of a changing economic climate, more than once let it be known over the past year or so that they would be open to discussions regarding the club's possible return. The outfit currently known as 'Buckingham Town' has made no response to this.

I find it surprising that you, so strident in voicing your suspicions regarding the legitimacy of Brackley Town Saints FC, should so readily leap to the defence of the complete and utter charade that is Milton Keynes Bobbins.

Watford FC supporter hence the name also follow Hull FC but rarely get to see either these days.

Oldbury United have finally been removed from the WMRL Division Two table.

As that division only has 11 members now, and the Shopshire Prem is down to 10 (if Donnington have indeed gone), then it makes you wonder if some merger of the WMRL Div Two and the Shropshire Premier League can't be achieved.

Well I say merger - what I mean is - disband the Shropshire Premier League and move all the teams that survive the summer (which, as this is Shropshire, will probably only be about half of them anyway) to the West Midlands Regional League Division Two.

Can anyone remind he what the threshold is for having games awarded to opposition, or all results being expunged.

I thought the cut off was 75% - ie, if you have played less, results get expunged, but if you've played more points are awarded.

Bradford Olympic has played 73% of their games - so maybe i'm wrong with the threshold?

There isn't a global threshold, even if the 75% level is often discussed as if it is gospel. It will be down to the individual leagues rules and committees to decide.

There isn't a global threshold, even if the 75% level is often discussed as if it is gospel. It will be down to the individual leagues rules and committees to decide.

Richard, I know leagues can do what they choose to, on an individual level, BELOW Step 7. But if you are part of the NLS, which of course goes down to and includes the Step 7 divisions then I thought this rule was applicable?

Or is that not right?

Nothing I can see in the NLS Regulations, or the Standardised League Rules (although those only apply to Steps 1-6 anyway).

Bexhill A.A.C. in the East Sussex League Premier Division have awarded their last 2 matches of the season to their opponents, thereby ‘completing’ their 18 match league season. Apart from these two, they also couldn’t be bothered to raise teams for 2 previous league matches as well as two cup matches.

At least the teams mentioned above were, despite their eventual failure, attempting to look to the future. This latest bunch of chancers are simply, (and dishonestly), seeking to appropriate someone else's past.

Reading the article from the Buckingham & Winslow Advertiser, Buckingham Town, now Milton Keynes Robins, changed their name because they were finding it difficult in attracting local sponsorship while under their previous name.

Not a league we monitor on NLM although they still appear in their league table. I guess we are getting to the point where clubs resign, due to the number of games played the remaining fixtures will be walk over's to their opponents.

All previous postings have been checked for NLM monitoring and have been actioned where necessary.

A couple of recent departures from Bristol leagues

Bristol Eagles have flown away from the Bristol & District League Division Four, the second team to leave this division during the season, Colerne having withdrawn some time ago.

Bikkle Sports have gone from the Surburban League Division Two, joining their reserves who left Division Five earlier this season

Colerne didn't attend any meetings this season, neither did they play a match - all their officers and players were posted overseas last summer.

According to the Middlesex County League (Step 7) Mitoo site, Tottenham Hale Rangers have withdrawn with immediate effest.

This takes the Premier Division down to 13 teams.

This is not a huge surprise. They had "played"18 games this season, but had forfeited 7 of them due to either suspension or being unable to field a team.

Their record has been expunged. ( That is a great word).

Sorry to any Oadby Town fans, its sad to hear but I have to ask why NOW? Why not last week?

Last week Oadby had played 28/38 matches = 73.6%

This would mean they're fixtures get expunged as per the NLS Rules. 75% being the cut off.

1 week later and they've now played 29/38 league games = 76.3% and as such their results will remain and 3 points awarded to their remaining 9 opponents.

Oadby Town were, I'm sure, aware of this stipulation in the regs. So why not resign last 7 days ago. It would have been far fairer on all members of the league, especially so when they were 10th in the table and as such those remaining 9 were not by any means assured of the 3 points against Oadby Town....

Maybe I'm just being overly suspicious. Maybe its just coincidence they made it past the 75% mark only last week?

-------------------------------------

Me thinks just coincidental, the manager quit hours before the club pulled the plug which may have been the final straw. Dark outside forces at work here and they never stood a chance and yes as Rambler has said they should have called it a day last May.

Is it down to the money though? I don’t know if in the case of Great Baddow that is the case , but I am aware of someclubs round my way going due to lack of people prepared to do the organsining of the pitch. In addition, there are clubs who have players whose work and family commitments prevent them from turning out. Not always convinced it is down to money.

The FA are responsible for a certain amount of the problems in the Non League game but to shoulder all the blame on them is unfair. We don't help ourselves in so many ways and constant comparisons with what EPL players earn means nothing. It happens in all walks of life and football is no different.

Just a note on Great Baddow supposed demise - it would appear only their first team has folded. They DO have a reserve side who appear to be still going - they played yesterday in the bottom division of the Mid-Essex League...and won 5-0 away to boot!

So the club is actually still alive! Just not the Essex Olympian side.

Is it likely Oadby will do a Blaby and resurface in the Senior league next season or do you think they've gone ?

Looking at what the secretary has said elsewhere they have gone.

Alex Jacobson (connection to Oadby Town uknown) has created a gofundme page for Oadby. When I asked whether this was to save the club or reincarnate he said "hopefuly saved".
The target is £30k, currently donations equate to £0.

Has the page already been taken down? When I click on the link it just takes me to the site homepage.........

Club announcement saying that midday today they will cease to be if the funds aren't made available. A few comments have been made about how well their players have been paid, so there has been very little sympathy from other tweeters!

To clear any speculation, a local Oadby businessman has agreed to support the club going forward.
A full statement will be released in due course.

Does anyone know if the team in the West Herts League called Sun Sports Rovers are anything to do with them?

With a name like that I am assuming they're some kind of reserve side or off shoot of Sun Sports?

Interesting that 'disappeared' is the correct word here because their results still remain with the remaining 14 clubs.

From Hitchin Town forum:

Blimey, only a couple of seasons back when we played Sun Sports in the County Cup - before they disbanded the first time.

The social facility that we visited looks like it is still in operation but there's nothing on their social media accounts to say what happened to Sun Sports FC. The last match mentioned was on 16 February (but they only won their first match in December so it wasn't looking like a glorious season).

There is a Sun Postal Sports FC in the Watford Sunday League Division 4. Not sure of they play at the same ground or how they tie in with Sun Sports Rovers or Sun Sports.

There seems to have been a fairly recent departure from the Birmingham & District League, late in the season - Pelsall United have folded.

It would appear the village of Pelsall is cursed when it come to having its own football club, of late!

I was quite surprised to learn that there even was a team called Pelsall United, as I actually live in Pelsall and was completely unaware of them! A quick check, though, reveals that this may in part be down to the fact that they played in Doe Bank Park, which isn't in Pelsall and in fact is almost in Sutton Coldfield..............

More trouble for the Surrey County Intermediate League (Western) in a double blow.

Parkside United and Woking & Horsell have both resigned with immediate effect leaving the Premier Division with just 7 teams to complete the season.

With the tier below it (Division One) only having 8 teams remaining, and the chances of losing a side to the Surrey Elite in the summer (with almost certainly no one coming down) I'd say its safe to say the league will contract to a single division for next season.

Which of course will in turn, push its sole feeder league, the Guildford & Woking Alliance up a level...

Did you see the reply from Oxhey Jets, amongst others? It won't be up to AVD to decide where they go. The teams in that area are on several league borders and could be put in any of them.

The I Zingari Combination has seen a few casualties in recent months. FC Northern, MSB Woolton U21 and now Ullet Road Church Rebels have each resigned from the league. This leaves 8 sides in its single open-age division.

Allscott AFC appear to have changed unofficially into Allscott HFC.

I passed their ground the other day and the sign outside the ground had changed.

I suspect they are going with Allscott Heath which is the name of the housing development that is supposed to be happening next to their ground.

So far no building work has started. I believe the builders promised to develop the ground in return for support from the club.

Steeple Bumpstead from the Cambridgeshire County League Divisin B (Third Tier).

Unlike a lot of clubs in the league, they had no reserve side, so presume the club has ceased...for now (as Cambs clubs do have a habit of reforming quite quickly - probably why the league is in such a healthy state!)

Does that mean they are reverting to just Hornchurch next season, or something else entirely?
