A few ticks took my eye today including Daventry Town <wouldn't answer phone before midday>, Chasetown v Kettering T and Cadbury Heath v Reading T in the Vase <PPnd>. But as I'd tried to do Dales Lane last New Years Day, which was called off due to frozen pitch by the ref after complaints by grumpy visiting Chasetown officials at 13:30pm, Olympic were top of my list. A very friendly and efficient club, a cosy little clubhouse, a decent pint, superb prog which is clearly a labour of love for someone, and teams pinned up on clubhouse and shop windows. The visitors Carlton, who to my ignorance I later learnt are from a suburb of Nottingham <Gedling> arrived only beaten once in the league so far this season. SO, this game must of been a bit of a shock to them. After an early dodgy penalty decision, which Carlton were happy to put away, Olympic soon got the better of the game, and by the 25th minute were deserving of a 2-1 lead after a cracking 20 yd free kick and tidy conversion from 'Lucan Spittle' for the 2nd <great name this>. For the rest of the game, Olympic were mostly on the offensive and frankly Carlton, 'The Millers' were pretty poor, if they had of snatched an equaliser it would have been a travesty. I expect Olympic to threaten the play offs. The ground by Step4 standards is dissapointing, the only cover being down one side with ancient looking chicken run shelters housing 3 rows of tired looking plastic bucket seats. However, on the opposite side they have seemingly concreted two areas for future stand erections, I suspect this will be needed quickly to stay at Step4, and will be definitely needed should they sneak into Step3. Add in some quality West Midlands banter and humour from the locals, it made for a good day out
