It would have been better for Wymeswold to return to the North Leicestershire League than fold the club but they must have had reasons for taking such an unfortunate step. Maybe a tad over ambitious to go to Loughborough in the first place what with all the financial implications that such a move entailed

Looks like Sileby Athletic are joining the LSL ranks coming into Div 2 playing on the back pitch at Loughborough Dynamo.

Why do I think this is going the be another short lived adventure along the lines of Wymeswold?

For anyone unware Athletic have been a Sunday side for 10 or 11 years. This coming season they will be running a Saturday side as well for the 1st time.

For anyone aware, it's myself that is the Chairman/Sec for Sileby Athletic. It seems to have a bit of negativity regarding us entering the Senior League.

FYI - We would not be joining the NLFL or the District League. However I am in favour of all the leagues merging together.

We are running 2 sides (Sats and Suns) next season, as we get older I would imagine our tenure on Sunday mornings will fizzle out. We won the Alliance Prem/1 Divisional Cup and a County Cup, we are more than established and recently Charter Standard. Senior League is the only route in Leics through to the Pyramid, we are starting at the bottom.

Funnily enough I managed Wymeswold for 2 seasons in the NLFL, it was ran by 2 hard working people who have there own business to look after, I'm sad to see the club fold however they're not the first and won't be the last.

Firstly, welcome to the forum (I think this is your fifth post).

Do you have your own pitches for Sunday football? Any plans to develop your own facilities for Saturdays?

The slight scepticism I would have regarding the long-term viability is that history of clubs moving out of town to get promoted / league placing is not good.

The suggestion from another poster was youíll be using one of Loughborough Dynamoís pitches. Is this sustainable in your view and how high up the pyramid are your aspirations?

Maybe you just have a decent bunch of lads now and see how far these take you but not so fussed about the long-term.

In any event, best wishes for the new season.

No worries! We don't have our pitch at the moment, if you know the village of Sileby there is very limited sources to use a pitch. We have been speaking with Sileby Juniors to hopefully build a bridge and create an adult pathway.

The dream is to have a ground - however the only chance of me getting this is winning the lottery at the moment. There is very limited space in the village. Platts Lane in Cossington has now gone to Sileby Rugby Club so it's a struggle to have a Senior League side down there.

We will be playing on the back pitch at Lough Dynamo, which obviously costs less than the main pitch. This can take us right to the Leics Senior League Prem. We're at the point where a lot of Sunday players want to play Saturday but want to represent SAFC in the Senior League.

That's where we're at at the moment, so I'm just looking forward to next season and hopefully building on that.

Good luck & I hope you can progress. Out of interest where do you play Sunday home games? I believe Sileby Juniors use Memorial Ground & if it still has facilities to host LSL games I would be very happy to visit as I missed it when previously used in the league. Come to think of it I have not seen a game on back pitch at Dynamo so may get along next season although I do not usually drop down below division 1.

Thank you. We play at Little Haw Lane, Shepshed (Ingles Res). Again we have tried to get closer to the village but most of our players now live in the Loughborough area.

The Memorial Park that where Sileby Town used to play has now been taken down and is now run by the Juniors. The barriers and dug outs have been taken down and they have moved up to the new housing estate near Seagrave.

Your more than welcome to come visit when the Aths play, on a Saturday or a Sunday

Magna'73 turned down promotion to the Premier Division, and as such Asfordby have been reprieved.

Division 1 will run with 16 teams and division 2 17.

The league AGM is tomorrow night, so I will post the line-ups for the lower two divisions Friday morning when I get home from work.

Yes I have been to Sileby Town new ground. I only mentioned Memorial ground re your comments of speaking with Juniors re adult team outlet. If that happened would Memorial be brought up to LSL standard again or is that out of the question? I see Ingles Res are in LSL1 next season if Dynamo does not work out perhaps you could use that alternate weeks? Or perhaps it is used by other teams already in addition to your Sunday team. I will watch your progress with interest.

Well what a season so far - (for anyone thats interested.)

Played FC Khalsa in the Prem and won, now face Barlestone in the next round of the League Cup.

Played Northfield Emerald and lost 7-1, who are going to absolutely romp the league.

Been accused of paying players from someone, also been told we're out of our depth by another person!!

Positive news, lots of decent grounds to travel to and see how working people keeping honest teams ticking over. Going to try and get as far as we can in the league and give the cups as good as a go!

I do think that the local leagues need a massive reshuffle to be honest! Don't know what everyones thoughts are 5/6 games in!!

Accusations of paying players in the oldest one in the book , usually made by people that have just been on the wrong end of a thumping!! Glad you're settling to life in Saturday football with seemingly relative ease. Watched Emeralds the other night and as a fellow poster said who was also at the game , it would have been better if they had been put in Div 1 but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

It's ridiculous, I'm chairman, secretary, manager! We run off no sponsorship, so everything is air tight what comes in and what goes out. We solely rely on the players which is a risk and that's the same with Sundays.*

Yeah as much as I sound a pessimist they are odds on favorites to win the league. They are too strong and to be honest, when we played them they completely out played us. We couldn't get near them.

*We play in the FA Sunday Cup next Sunday v FC Poplar if anyone wants to watch. 2pm at Lough FC

They have yet to play a league fixture at Nanpanton so now have loads coming up. The home cup game against Khalsa drew a crowd of 30.
