Hallen and Roman Glass St George could easily substitute in. There's also now Shortwood United - would suit me for the Sunday afternoon!

Wasn't Roman Glass' ground on a hop when Almondsbury Town played there?

Sorry, I wouldn't know about either of these - I just looked at the Western League hops, which appeared to start in 2015 - and didn't think about Almondsbury changing location. Does anyone have, or can produce, a listing of which ground/clubs have been 'hopped' and when?

Almondsbury Town were never in the Western League. I think that it was hopped on a Hellenic League game, after which we moved onto Cricklade.

Not sure about that.I saw Cricklade on a hop in August 2009, first match on a Sunday, followed by Newbury (non-tick for me) and Ascot United.
As an aside, I have an interest in the Almondsbury game.I saw Almondsbury Town in April 1999 at what I have described as Oakland Park.I believe that is what is now known as the county ground, and where Roman Glass St George now play. And that Almondsbury play on the opposite side of the road ( right hand side travelling west from the M5)

Just checked my records - the Almondsbury Town match was due to be played on the morning of the Cricklade match in 2009, but was postponed after I arrived at the ground.

If you saw Almondsbury Town in 1999 it was probably at Oaklands Park. In the early 1990s Almondsbury Town played on the other side of the A38, roughly in the area where Almondsbury now play.

Not only do Roman Glass St George [formerly Bristol St George] play at Oaklands Park but so do Lebeq United from the Gloucestershire County League. Former occupants besides Almondsbury Town include Winterbourne United in their Western League days.

In which case on Saturday people should use the Bristol Ring Road to the M32, then the M4 and M5. Whilst on Sunday well that could be interesting.

Disagree with that.Frankly, hops to really interesting places which I then do not get to see are less interesting to me than those to places where a day trip would be just in and out.
Now if Groundhop could just switch some of the fixtures so as I could get three new grounds on the Saturday, rather than just the two!

Anyone wanting an alternative on the Friday evening may wish to consider Tranmere v Crewe, which has been shifted from the Saturday (not under the influence of GHUK, I might add!)

That's a blast from the past. In my Tranmere watching days in the late 80's and early 90's that was a regular Friday fixture. Those were the days.

England on the telly rarely impacts on Rovers' attendances although a blank EPL weekend can put a few hundred on the gate if it's a decent-looking game. It's been quite a while since we had a normal league game on a Friday so it'll be interesting to see the turnout, especially given these circumstances.

The 7th Annual Bedfordshire County Football League Groundhop 13th October 2018.
I am delighted to announce that this year’s groundhop will take place on the second Saturday in October.
We have three games as usual featuring one game in Division One and two in the Premier Division.
The day starts off with a 1100 kick off at the Woodlands home of Bedford Albion.
We then make the short trip from Albion and to the other side of Bedford for a 1345 kick off in the Premier Division at Allen Park home of Queens Park Crescents before making our way onto the village of Wootton to pay a visit to Weston Park home to former United Counties League side Wootton Blue Cross who round off the day with a 1645 ko in the Premier Division.
Admission to all the games is as usual free, with all clubs issuing a programme at £2 each.
Advance programme tickets are available at £6 for the three games or individual match tickets can be purchased to suit. Email [email protected] for more details.
Also you can purchase a ticket by seeing me on the PDFL/UCL hop, the Welsh hop or indeed the NBFL hop.
Transport is provided at an additional £12 if you require it, pick up at Bedford Train Station at 0915.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at this year’s event.

The latest email also points out that Canton Liberal's game will be at Lawrenny Avenue, which I believe is the railed-off pitch just behind Leckwith Stadium; that St Albans will not be hopped; and that STM Sports Old Boys is not the same ground as STM Sports, although it doesn't go as far as saying which ground it actually is.

Yes, I believe it's their regular ground although they may play some games at the main athletics stadium. I think they've been there a few years, but there may have been a change of access point or change of address during this time, even though it's been the same pitch throughout.

There's been a change to the Welsh Hop Monday schedule, STM Sports OB are out and Rhydyfelin are in - it's now Rhydyfelin (11am), Caerphilly Athletic (2pm) & AFC Whitchurch (5pm).

Rhydefelin are not at the same ground that was hopped for Rhydyfelin Zenith some years ago.

Laurence has this evening tweeted that there won't be a North Berks Hop this year

"It would appear that we've finally run out of clubs who either can, or want to host a game, or haven't already done so. Still it's been one helluva ride from the first game at Steventon, to the last at Westminster."

Well I will certainly be at Preston Park so if you fancy a pint beforehand Paul, give me a shout, The Saturday hop is functional shall we say. Here is an atcost and another oh and here is a cage etc etc. Luckily I tick these awful venues off in midweek with little expense

I wish i could mate, but I'm afraid it'a a case of
GroundhopUK 1-0 Highways Agency.
I just can't face too many trips home from up there, so 3 new ones in a weekend and a drive home with no road closures is good for me.
Now our friend Bezza has dished up some good stuff over the years as well as some total crap, wet fields are not for me, but the latest expedition on GroundhopEU could be about as bad as it gets.
3 in a day sounds good, especially when it's a Wednesday, and in a nice City like Lisbon.
15-00 Belenenses V Chaves (currently playing at the old National Stadium)
18-00 Setubel V Tondela
21-15 Sporting V Estoril
Only one new ground for me, but just fancied it.
Sounds good i hear you cry, but these are League Cup, not only that, their League cup is in groups. OK they might take is seriously, but they might not, if that's the case a friendly in North Wales might not seem so bad, or getting drenched in a field in South Wales could be quite appealing.
But who cares, it's cheap and the CEO of GroundhopEU doesn't make you pay any surcharges for cash.

For those of you who are going to any or all of the Groundhop Games starting this Friday, I have been tasked with accessing the line ups and writing them up on a white board which will be ready for use well before the game. Therefore don't feel you have tro hunt down the teams as it will be done for you.
Also, I am selling the 125tgh anniversary Western League book at all the games so those who want one for the collection see me with seven quid and I will oblige . Finally anyone struggling to get to any of the venues, come and find me as I will have room for three more going from game to game. Get to Briz early on Friday.

.....
We then make the short trip from Albion and to the other side of Bedford for a 1345 kick off in the Premier Division at Allen Park home of Queens Park Crescents....

Is this where Bedford Town played in the early nineties?

Correct, but the ground's entrance is in Old Ford End Road (opposite Ormesby Way) and not in Carlisle Road as some sources claim. Google Maps photo show a cricket square on ground, but this is because their photos are taken during the summer months.

Regarding the Hellenic League hop. It appears the league fixtures only go up to 13th April. Although there appears to be good reason. Brimscombe & Thrupp have 10 games left, 9 are played in Jan, Feb & March & their last game is April 13th. At this rate the league might have finished by Easter ? Even Longlevens who have a lot of games left have their last 2 games scheduled for April 6th & 13th.
I was just checking about booking accommodation but I'll hold off at moment.

MARCH 2019
8th - 10th North West Counties League (Groundhop UK)

Saturday March 9
Bootle v Ashton Ath (11.00)
Litherland REMYCA v City of Liverpool (1.30)

St Helens v AFC Blackpool (7.45)

No news yet from GHUK but one factor that could've affected the running order of these fixtures has been resolved today. Liverpool v Burnley has been moved to Sunday 10th, presumably so as not to clash with the nearby Lower Breck game. Wink

Not that I am aware of since their resignation last season. All fixture info was taken directly from the GHUK website.
I expect it is more likely to be Headington Amateurs.

Abingdon Town were originally quoted as an opposition but this was changed to Abingdon United so I expect GHUK's due diligence checks weren't that thorough

If Long Crendon is not up to standard and they play at Oxford City. Then why does the ground suddenly become fit for a league game. Have the Hellenic League got no morals or backbone.

Typically in the region of 200-300, give or take. No idea what proportion of that would typically book through GHUK (thus guaranteeing their programme Wink) though.

Has the Central Midlands hop been scrapped? Seems to have fallen off the calendar

Yes, it's been cancelled. From GHUK's latest newsletter it's partly because there's been so few postponements this year but also because "two of the hosts could be playing in the League Cup Final that weekend so had to be withdrawn, Newark haven’t moved into their new facility yet, and Retford would be waiting five weeks between penultimate and final match of the season."

Good time up North, shame about Irlam but hopefully they didn’t produce too many programmes (most of the others didn’t) and didn’t get too much food in.
But spare a thought for poor old Bezza, poor old boy has now got to dish out loads of refunds. I was led to believe those that brought the ticket paid £5 a game, but the rest of us only paid £4 at one game, £3 at another, concessions were available at another, and obviously the Irlam game being off means poor old Bezza is probably a very busy boy dishing out lots of £8’s, I didn’t see him dishing out any cash refunds but no doubt the hoppers would have insisted on a handling fee.

GHUK's individual match prices varied from £5-£7 but all included the match programme. Irlam was £7, not £8, which stacks up with the club's usual £5 adult admission charge and £2 prog. Rylands was £5 including a £2 prog, which suggests a £3 admission...though various WDYG reports this season suggest it's normally £4. So next time grab yourself a bargain and book through GHUK! Just for clarity - we have been told in the past that GHUK does refund for games that are called off.
As they keep a record of bookings, there would be no need for them to have anyone at the gate issuing vouchers

Chatting about this at last night's Norwich City U23 game and we thought the biggest issue would be trying to get clubs to switch to Sunday, as this would cause players to have to decide which team to turn out for. I'm also presuming the focus would be towards the top end of the AC but it will be interesting to see what materialises and if £5 is the going rate for a GHUK game best of luck getting locals (and others) to pay at most AC venues.

The recent GHUK newsletter mentioned the Anglian Comb hop would not include any Sunday games. Without double-checking, I think this was at the behest of the league. No idea what their prices would be for step 7 and below.

Good point. With a number of current Premier Division clubs - such as Wymondham, Hellesdon, Long Stratton, Blofield, St Andrews and Acle - playing on easily-accessed pitches on public land, you can't stop anybody just wandering in. Perhaps the attraction is going to be an infrequent issuer coming up with a special issue to justify the £5 charge - possibly CEYMS or Aylsham. You're also going to need clubs with lights involved, and logistically it would have to be centred around the Norwich area so you could get a programme like: Friday 7.30pm: Aylsham or Beccles; Saturday: 11am Wymondham; 1.30pm CEYMS; 4pm Long Stratton 7.30pm Beccles or Bungay. Your Caisters, Scoles and Mundfords may be considered too far-flung this time around, while if UEA were to get promoted there's no real attraction for anyone to visit a roped-off pitch unless there's an all-important piece of paper.

The attraction is not just about a programme at an infrequent issuer, though that would no doubt be an attraction for some. There have been plenty of grounds on hops over the years where people could easily wander in without paying, but most of those travelling some distance to attend would be willing enough to pay the host club, and with sales on other items too, be able to make it worthwile for them.

Re: [stanley nick] All Hops Details Sticky [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

After the excellent Jock hop we now look forward to the Hellhop, speaking to the hoppers at the weekend I couldn't find many that were going to the whole thing, but plenty appeared to be paying a visit at sometime. Hopefully it will be a success.
But in these times of austerity and the uncertainty over Brexit 2 expensive weekends might be too much for some, so with this in mind I have a cunning plan.
If you read Bezza's literature it clearly states that you cannot book coach transport without a match ticket, but it certainly doesn't say anything about hotel booking.
So, save yourself a fortune and book the hotel on booking.com. All prices based on 2 sharing.
Thursday, Booking.com price a fairly pricey £46, Groundhop UK price a tad dearer at £82.

Friday Booking.com price, a very reasonable £36, Groundhop UK an astounding £82

Saturday. Booking.com price slightly overpriced for this mediocre establishment at £45. Groundhop UK price, yep, you've guessed it an incredible £82

Sunday. Booking.com price, just about right for this place £31, Groundhop UK price an astronomical £82.

Now, work it out for yourself, there's 15% commission on those Booking.com prices so Bezza must have got these rooms for peanuts.
Also the Booking.com price doesnt include breakfast, but sadly this outdated mediocre establishment only offers a very basic continental breakfast, so put a quid on the price for that. One more thing, this place is so outdated that it doesn't even have wifi in the rooms, how 2012 is that???
Now Leo wont let me call Bezza an anagram of rail, but what are we supposed to think when we read another part of his literature
"ONCE AGAIN, WE'VE STRUCK A GREAT DEAL THAT KEEPS THE PRICE OF THE ACCOMODATION DOWN, SO PLEASE USE OUR BOOKED HOTEL-IT'S THE LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE AND ROOMS WE BOOK THAT GETS THE PRICES DOWN."

What can one say about that???

From what I've heard, I'm guessing the Almondsbury Interchange Hotel. Very outdated, and much better options that are a little bit further away.

Re: [paulh66] All Hops Details Sticky [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

With the Hellhop starting tomorrow I've just had a look to see what the most attractive matches are, with regards to on field efforts.

Thursday 18th April

(6) Almondsbury v Malmesbury Victoria 19.45
Almondsbury are guaranteed to finish in their current league position of 7th. Malmesbury Victoria could still win the league if Easington Sports lose on Saturday 20th and they win their last 2 matches. If they finish 2nd then they could be promoted depending on their final PPG.

Friday 19th April

(5) Longlevens v Reading City 12.00
3rd bottom vs 2nd bottom; Reading City's last match of the season and anything other they a win (or a considerable GD swing) would see them finish in the bottom 2 (relegation zone according to NLM). A draw here would relegate Abingdon United.

(5) Lydney Town v Windsor 15.30
12th v 6th and a midtable finish guaranteed for both. Both have one more league match after this one.

(6) Newent Town v Cheltenham Saracens 19.00
Cheltenham Saracens are level on points with Malmesbury Victoria before the Hellhop begins, and will be looking for a good win here to help their GD as well as their PPG. Newent Town are guaranteed to finish 8th - 10th.

Saturday 20th April

(8) Stokenchurch v Chalfont Wasps 11.00
6th v 2nd bottom. Chalfont Wasps will be looking for the win to ensure they aren't relegated (to where, nobody knows).

(6) Chinnor v Holyport 14.00
Guaranteed bottom team (on 7 points) against the 4th placed team, that could finish 3rd. A Holyport win and an AFC Aldermaston defeat (who play away to guaranteed 2nd place Thame Rangers at 3pm) would see Holyport finish 3rd.

(8) Long Crendon v Langley (At LC and not Oxford City) 17.00
2nd vs 1st. Long Crendon on 70 points (+88 GD) host Langley who are top on 71 points (+84 GD); with Langley having played one game more. Both can still be caught by Penn & Tylers Green Development who are 3rd on 65 points.

Sunday 21st April

(8) Bourton Rovers v Headington Amateurs 11.00
6th plays host to 5th. Both can still finish 2nd although Headington have 3 points more and for Bourton Rovers to finish 2nd results would have to be very kind elsewhere, as well as them winning all 4 remaining matches. Situation could change tonight as Headington Amateurs travel to Highworth Town Reserves.

(8) Moreton Rangers v Adderbury Park 14.15
League winners host 4th place. Adderbury Park could still finish 2nd (promotion place on NLM) but need to win last 2 matches and results to go their way - could be all over (excluding a GD swing and/or some favourable results) by KO if Headington Amateurs win their 2 matches in the meantime.

(5) Brimscombe & Thrupp v Abingdon United 18.00
Brimscombe & Thrupp need to win and then hope Wantage Town lose away to Windsor on Easter Monday. Bishop's Cleeve winning their 2 remaining matches would also mean Brimscombe & Thrupp don't finish top. Abingdon United are guaranteed a bottom placed finish, even if they win this 8-0! If Longlevens and Reading City draw at midday on Friday then even 8-0 won't be enough.

Monday 22nd April

(5) Bishop's Cleeve v Shrivenham 11.00
4th v 5th but only Bishop's Cleeve can finish top (at time of typing this). Could be irrelevant by the time this one kicks off.

(5) Tuffley Rovers v Fairford Town 14.15
4th bottom (and pretty much safe barring some pretty sensational GD swings) hosting 13th.

(6) Thornbury v Newent Town 18.00
Much to happen before this one, but a Thornbury win could see them win the league if Easington Sports lose at home to Cirencester Town Development on the Saturday at 3pm. A Thornbury win would also stop them from sweating over the Pewsey Vale v Malmesbury Victoria match on Tueday 23rd (Thornbury play at home to Pewsey Vale on Saturday 20th; PV are 3rd bottom).

Considering that hops at the end of the season run the risk of numerous dead rubbers, the selection here seems to be a good one, with at least something hinging on nearly all ties. Still trying to convince my wife that Easter is for hopping; so far I've been given the green light for Almondsbury but she hasn't seen the size of the Easter egg I've bought her yet...
