Check out bus route 217 (Turnpike Lane - Waltham Cross) as this should prove easier and quicker to get from Haringey Borough to Enfield Town. You would have to walk to the A10 first (5 mins). The route then follows the A10

https://tfl.gov.uk/bus/route/217/

White Hart Lane and Cambridge Gardens are the respective bus stops

The London Overground line between Hackney Downs and Enfield Town/Cheshunt via Seven Sister is closed for engineering works on Saturday 9th/Sunday 10th June so this bus route will be the only way of getting to the final.

Will tickets be available on the gate for the final at Enfield on Saturday? Not sure if they're expecting a capacity crowd but the 6pm KO makes a double possible with rugby league - London Skolars v Hunslet - 3pm @ New River Stadium.

I am planning this double and will be getting the bus from New River to Enfield. See you there Michael.

Brimsdown station is still open. This is not that much further than Enfield Town or Southbury. If there is a big crowd for the final and more people waiting for the bus than there are spaces on the bus, the driver will probably just let people off then drive on without letting anyone on. This seems to be a London thing and has happened to me twice, leaving me with a long walk on both occasions.

Looks like some problems for CONIFA
First we had this statement
http://www.conifa.org/...wa-and-ellan-vannin/

Which seemed to me to be straightforward. Ellan Vannin protest, but lost the appeal - which was apparently voted on twice (same outcome both times)

But now we get this tweeet today https://twitter.com/...961186411515905?s=20

My feeling is that Ellan Vannin have betrayed the spirit of the competition and those of their fans who are in London for the week
They may think the decision is unfair, but they should still get on with it and play the game

Agreed. Act with dignity instead of throwing your toys out of the pram. Sometimes things go against you even if you believe you've done nothing wrong. It's called life.

Agree. No matter how hard done by you feel, you carry on. Let's face it is not a very major tournament is it? I'm still going to see Tibet play at Bromley anyway.
As they don't see fit to play in the competition, are they going to withdraw from CONIFA as well? In which case they will cease to exist. Talk about cutting your nose off.

They have just resigned. Tibet will be awarded a 3-0 walkover but will play a friendly against 'Turkish Football' instead.

This really has been a massive headloss from Isle of Man who themselves requested player changes after the deadline (along with 12 out of the 16 teams).

It's an amateur tournament run by volunteers who have had to process hundreds of visas from all corners of the globe as well as sort out 10 grounds in and around the capital. They've said in their statement that the amount of team changes were overwhelming so they just let everyone do it. The player the Isle of Man are complaining about played 2/3 matches for Barawa anyway, the only one he missed was against Tamil Eelam, who are one of the weakest teams in the competition and were beaten by Barawa 4-0!

They've spent the last two days complaining on Twitter about how far they've had to travel and how much money they've had to spend but are apparently fine to pull out of a match against Tibet at the last minute. Sorry if there are any Manx fans on here but to my mind they have utterly disgraced themselves here.

By the way, I would recommend taking in a game at CONIFA. Went down this weekend and it's a lovely atmosphere and should be a decent standard if you stick to the winner's bracket.

Absolutely agree that Ellan Vannin's behaviour is completely wrong and not in the spirit of CONIFA. I'm now rather looking forward to Chagos Islands v Matabeleland on Thursday (or whoever they're playing), it'll be a more open and attacking spectacle that the Manx were likely to serve up.

I think that you are completely correct. Tibet's game with London Turkish Select was plenty entertaining. I have it on good authority that the Chagos Islands will be invited to take the place of Ellan Vannin; they might have played Tibet today if circumstances had permitted it.
The Manx team had a completely transparent appeal process which was enacted twice. The appeal failed twice on CONIFA member's votes. They were also implored to reconsider their withdrawal.
IMO, CONIFA could have done nothing more and are in no way to blame on a situation which is (to quote a spokesman) as sad for Ellan Vannin as it is for CONIFA.

Agree that that Ellan Vannin's behaviour was an absolute disgrace. But CONIFA should be ashamed of themselves too.
I went to the Tibet game and only found out that they were playing a Turkish team because someone in the stand 30 minutes before the game saw it on Twitter, there were no announcements at that point. When the teams were read out the match was still described as a placement match not a friendly. They also had the nerve to charge £12 for a friendly.
Have they not heard of the Trades Descriptions Act?
Also why did they not announce this sooner? They had time to arrange alternative opposition, so they must have had time to put something on Twitter before 1.30. If I had known I would have gone to the 2 games at Sutton instead.
I didn't bother to pay for the second game at Bromley so I got to watch two games for £12 anyway!
I hear the final is virtually sold out with over 2,000 tickets sold. Half of those won't get a proper view of the game. Not sure why such a poor ground has been selected for the final. Sutton United would be a much better choice. Bromley is unavailable due to a youth tournament.
It is unlikely that I shall be watching anymore games in this tournament. I was really looking forward to it too, but like most things in life it has turned out to be a massive disappointment!

"But CONIFA should be ashamed of themselves too."
Well, an alternative view is that they performed a miracle in getting alternative opponents.
"I went to the Tibet game and only found out that they were playing a Turkish team because someone in the stand 30 minutes before the game saw it on Twitter, there were no announcements at that point."I only found out because I checked this website first. Up to 10.00 they were still trying to convince Ellan Vallin to stay in. I didn't have to leave until 2, the rearranged match was settled by then, but I would agree that communications with Bromley could have been better.
"When the teams were read out the match was still described as a placement match not a friendly."
I agree that there was confusion.

"They also had the nerve to charge £12 for a friendly. Have they not heard of the Trades Descriptions Act?"
Actually this was surely a gatesman's mistake, or lack of knowledge. CONIFA announced that pre-purchased tickets could be refunded on the gate therefore the first match should have been free. I gave £12 because I knew that I was staying for the second game. However I was given a ticket for the first game only -which I also consider a mistake.
"Also why did they not announce this sooner? They had time to arrange alternative opposition, so they must have had time to put something on Twitter before 1.30. If I had known I would have gone to the 2 games at Sutton instead."Don't really follow twitter so I don't know.
"I didn't bother to pay for the second game at Bromley so I got to watch two games for £12 anyway!"I don't think that there was ever an intention to strictly enforce the pay per game format but it wouldn't have made sense to announce this. Having run a retail business I believe that the price point was wrong. If it had been £9 there may have been little complaint, although I would have made early rounds a fiver to get interest going. There should be increased admission charges towards the final. The brochure was a brilliant design and a fiver compares favourably with Wembley. However, I would also have paid 50p-£1 for teamsheets, which were free.

"I hear the final is virtually sold out with over 2,000 tickets sold.etc."I expect that there is good reason for choice of ground, (which I haven't been to) but its too far for me.
"It is unlikely that I shall be watching anymore games in this tournament. I was really looking forward to it too, but like most things in life it has turned out to be a massive disappointment!"I suppose it depends on what you were expecting. The matches I have seen have been entertaining which being a pessimist, and along with programme/teamsheets, is about all I required. I would say that this tournament needs our support and I hope that you can see some positives and do get to another match.

Re: [Lionarm] CONIFA [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

While CONIFA should perhaps have announced who would be playing Tibet earlier and £12 is expensive for the standard of the teams involved I think CONIFA should be congratulated for getting alternative opposition at such short notice and for actually getting a tournament involving such diverse sides together at all despite the odd irritation.
Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed the tournament so far. The attitude of all those involved in the games I have seen, that taking part is what itís all about and winning is just a welcome bonus makes a pleasant change. This attitude has lead to a high level of entertainment in ALL the games Iíve seen and coupled with the sheer joy of the fans has, in my view, meant the admission charge has been money well spent
Sad that the Isle of Manís actions are so out of step with the general tone of the tournament. However, if they felt it was a matter of honour I understand why they felt they had to withdraw. Perhaps if they hadnít ďrestedĒ so many players in their final group game they might not have missed out on the chance of winning the tournament and their sense of honour might have been less developed.

Re: [Lionarm] CONIFA [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

The initial announcement of the change appears to have been on twitter at 12.26.
Clearly, CONIFA had some notice as they announced the Manx withdrawal and the Turkish stand in at the same time.

I do not think they intended to make the game free, but were just offering refunds to those who had paid in advance and no longer wanted to go.

One of the lessons they will have learned from this tournament is that it is difficult to play double headers in quick succession and clear the ground between them
I suspect the admission costs and receipts were less of a question at the earlier tournaments

It will be interesting to see where CONIFA goes from here, and how they react to this tournament

Very disappointed by the actions of the Isle of Man which has rendered the placement half of the draw (a great idea in the spirit of the competition) a bit of a mess.

It is surely the nature of a competition like this that squad withdrawals and changes are so common and inevitable owing to travel costs, visas, work commitments etc that all teams are liable to be cobbling together squads as the tournament approached. Indeed from what I've read numerous teams (including Manx) made squad changes after the deadline likely owing to these myriad of reasons.

Personally I'd be pretty embarrassed if my team was to lose on the pitch and then go running to volunteer organisers trying to get the opposition thrown out over a technicality. To then completely throw the toys out of the pram after the appeal didn't go their way is just sad and leaves a sour taste in what has been a very enjoyable event in the games I managed to get to.

Re: CONIFA [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I spent the weekend down in London last week for the group games and had such a great time at all four games I attended. The quality is diverse and some teams clearly better than others, but the fact that people have the opportunity to identify with Tibet or Matabeleland is something CONIFA should be applauded for. The atmosphere has been brilliant at all games as well, much more noise than I hear at plenty of league games.

The only constructive comment I have is that the kick off times could be spaced out a bit more to allow for travel between venues. Admittedly I had a list of a few teams I wanted to see which meant travelling across London and thus having to leave the first game early to make the second, but if kick off times were say 12 and 4 rather than 2 and 5 it might encourage people to double up on games while making a visit.

I would say a bigger issue regarding Barawa than the late registration of Bettamer would be whether he and numerous other players in the squad actually have any links to Somalia, who Barawa claim to be representing.

Re: [PartizanBristle] CONIFA [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Hopefully, I get this all right - these are the final day fixtures

Midday Kick-offs
15th Place/Friendly game, at Bedfont.
Tuvalu v Chagos Islands
13/14 Place, at Aveley. Tamil Eelam v Matabeleland
11/12 Place, at Fisher. Tibet v United Koreans of Japan

15.00 Kick-offs.
9/10 Place, at Haringey.
Kabilya v Abkhazia
7/8 Place, at Aveley. Barawa v Western Armenia
5/6 Place, at Fisher. Panjab v Cascadia
3/4 Place, at Enfield. Padania v Szekely Land

The FINAL, 18.00, at Enfield
Northern Cyprus v Karpatalya

My original plan was the 15/16 play-off game, but this went by the wayside when the Manx side pulled out
The 13/14 place then comes in, as the lowest possibility
However, despite my reluctance to "tick" a ground for this, I now think I will go to Fisher - specifically to watch Tibet, which is the only one of the 16 I have not seen in action. I can imagine some noise from the direction of Crewe, and in my own head, I will have to go back there soon.
