2 Games at both Haringey & Enfield on the 2nd provide an easy double by car, less than 5 miles straight up the A10. It may also be just about possible by public transport (London Overground White Hart Lane to Turkey Street takes 10 mins).

What I'm not sure about is the local knowledge needed for London / local traffic etc at the times in question
I'd rather do 2 games at 2 different grounds rather than the double at the same ground but would welcome those with more local knowledge than me

A Carshalton (12), Sutton (3), Bromley (8) treble on 31st would be comfortably do-able by car. Despite heavy traffic at that time of day, you should even reach Bromley in good time for the opening ceremony at 7pm.

Why not have a stress-free day and leave the car at home? A look at a detailed map of the area will show that the Carshalton and Sutton grounds should be no more than 30 minutes walk apart, at a guess (never actually tried it myself, admittedly)

As for the next two matches, there is plenty of time to get from Sutton to Bromley by train, even if you have to travel back to Victoria station to change trains. A bus from Sutton to Morden and then a tube to Brixton (changing at Stockwell, then train from Brixton to Bromley South) should also achieve the same objective.

I used to commute out of Victoria, on the Bromley line.
So I am assuming this is a new definition of "stress free", that I had not been previously aware of.

Also on Thursday 31st, I'm thinking of attempting the matches at Haringey Borough (at noon), at Enfield Town (at 3pm), and finishing at Bromley (at 8pm), all by train. There'll be no dallying for the leg between Haringey and Enfield, but it is still easily do-able.

Check out bus route 217 (Turnpike Lane - Waltham Cross) as this should prove easier and quicker to get from Haringey Borough to Enfield Town. You would have to walk to the A10 first (5 mins). The route then follows the A10

https://tfl.gov.uk/bus/route/217/

White Hart Lane and Cambridge Gardens are the respective bus stops

The CONIFA Twitter feed has confirmed that there will be a programme for the tournament, although it doesn't say whether it will be a 'paper' programme.
Another interesting snippet is that Marius Stankevicius who has 65 caps for Lithuania will be representing Padania.
This seems very much like cheating to me!

CONIFA is a paper programme. They are trying to get people to pay in advance on-line and then collect at a match

Re: [jrev61] CONIFA [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Most of the preliminary squad lists can be found at http://www.conifa.org/...fc-2018-team-squads/
CONIFA has been hit by the withdrawal of Felvidek - the team for the Hungarian minority in Slovakia
[to be accurate, most of the suqad hailed from the Southern areas of Slovakia, where Hungarian is the majority language]

This is unfortunate, as they would have been one of the favourites - a quick look at the squad list shows most of the players are attached to clubs in the top two divisions of Slovakia and Hungary. Of course, I have not checked to see how many of these are first team players.

Their replacements are Karpatalya - another Hungary ethnic team, but in this case based in Ukraine

Looking at some of the squads
Abkhazia have named a team with players from their local league, and the lower divisions of the Russian leagues, with one player Anri Khagush from Arsenal.
That is Arsenal Tula - a top division Russian side. The 31 year old has played most of his career in Russia, and has played in half his teams games this season

Barawa have an alarming number listed as unattached or free agents, with the rest spread out mainly at non-league around London. Three though list their club as Dortmund Youth (in Kenya!!), while two state Jeddah Stars (Saudi Arabia).

Cascadia claim 8 of their squad are with USA level 4 teams, but only one of the names there was recognisable to me (Kitsap Pumas). While I think most of those from USA are actually with university teams, there could be a problem with actual level 4 players - as it clashes with their season. Much of the rest are with London and home counties non-League sides, but they do have Elgin City's Calum Ferguson, and Jordan Wilson who has been a regular for Nykobing, in the second level in Denmark

Only three of the Ellan Vannin squad are not with Manx clubs. The most intriguing being Conor Doyle, listed as Elite FC Dubai!. One player is with Bottesford, while Seamus Sharkey is with Sligo and had been playing in the League of Ireland

Kabylia are mixed from French and Algerian clubs, and a few in the UK - but I can not pin down any of their players. The couple with team names I instantly recognise are not on squad lists, but this means little a foot-national is not good in that respect. The one listed as with Creteil did not play when I saw the club

The Northern Cypriot team will be almost exclusively from the Northern Cypriot league

The Padania side is from levels 4-6 in Italy, including the international already mentioned

The Panjab squad is alomst exclusive to the UK, but unlike the other diaspora teams, appears to cover the whole country.

Most of the Szekely Land squad appears to play at the third level in Romania. A couple play Futsal, rather than the 11 a side game. There are also a small number playing in Hungary. Three play in the top division in Romania, with the two Sepsi players both apparently regulars.

The Tamil Eelam squad are hard to place, even though half of them are with English clubs are universities. The rest are dotted around Europe with one hailing from Canada

No club details are given for the Tibetans, most are thought to play only local football in India

Tuvalu's squad is all Tuvalu based

United Koreans - Yong Hak An is probably the first player to play in both CONIFA and FIFA final tournaments, assuming he plays this time. Much of the squad is in the lower divisions in Japan, with Min Cheol Son playing in the Hong Kong top division

Western Armenia - this is a very mixed squad, with players playing in seven different countries. Armenia itself is included, but not Western Armenia which is situated in Turkey

I do not know if others on here can say a little about the players where there are gaps in my knowledge or research - I will look further into a few of the squads as the tournament goes ahead. Matabeleland have not announced a squad yet, nor have Karpatalya.

From a reply on Twitter: 1 is a donation to one of the teams and 1 is a booking fee. The remaining 9 goes towards covering teams accommodation and other operational costs.

Probably staging the event in London is more expensive than elsewhere and hence you can question the choice of location.

Presumably if 1 is a booking fee, then tickets should only be 10 on the day. I wonder how sales are going?

Despite having been told by someone on the organising committee via Twitter that tickets on the day would be the same price, it now appears (according to Aveley's Twitter feed) that tickets on the day are 12. Not sure if that includes a donation to "costs" as the same post suggests online tickets are 10.

There is some doubt about Matabeleland's participation. They still haven't raised the money they need through crowdfunding, nor have they listed a squad. This despite there being only 3 days to go.
Not sure what would happen if they pull out. Would Hashtag United take their place? If not there will be 6 games less and no 15 and 16th place final.

True. But could their players arrange time off work, accommodation etc. at such short notice?
Hashtag have already offered to replace any team that pulls out, and their players presumably live near or in London, so would not need accommodation.

Surely CONIFA would prefer not to have to cancel games and refund ticket money even if it means having a non-member compete. The danger is of course that Hashtag could win the competition.

I did not get to ask a question at the pre-tournament conference.
I had raised my hand to ask, but they picked the bloke from Sky Sports first, and he asked the question I was going to ask.

So, as well as the familiar red and yellow cards, there will also be a green card.
This will be somewhere in between the two - the player must leave the field, but a substitute can come on (if the full number of subs has not been used)
Mainly for offences of dissent and diving. I had a fuller explanation later from one of the referees. The ref in question normally referees in the Oberliga Mittelrhein.
Also teams will be allowed four substitutes.

With ten of the teams staying at the same accomodation in North London, they seemed to be getting on together well.
It was however notable that while players from most teams were sitting in the dining room, quite casually, they team from Padania were looking very professional, all coming in together and eating as a team. I think they are taking this very seriously and should be one of the favourites

Lowdown from Pers-Anders Blind
Group A: Expect Cascadia and Ellan Vannin to make the quarter-finals
Group B: Expect Tibet to finish bottom of group - not certain which of the others won't make quarter-finals
Group C: Padania and Szekely Land the favourites
Group D: The most open - Panjab probably group favourites
