I entirely agree, Richard

If there is no realistic prospect of playing in the immediate future, then there are plenty of 3G pitches, Welton for example could go to Oaklands Park, which is close enough.

Or, as in the Sunday Cup, switch venues so Welton have to go to Bodmin

Keynsham Town would be even nearer.

Latest on the 3rd round ties is that if they're not played on Tuesday, they must be rescheduled on Wednesday. If that's off too, then they're set for Thursday. Then if that too is not possible it's Saturday at an alternative venue.

Players with full time jobs (mostly) and family lives.

What planet is someone at the FA on, because it sure doesn't sound like Earth?

The directive from the FA recd yesterday actually says "Either" Wednesday or Thursday, not both.
I know Bodmin have informed FA that they are happy for Weds but not for Thursday, on the basis thats its "either".

Were talking non-league pitches, late November ..

Exactly. So Northwich should have considered the possibilty of a postponement and agreed in advance what day the rearranged would take place thus giving their players as much notice as the Morpeth players would have had regarding a potential replay.

If there'd been a replay, it would have been on the Tuesday, and by implication in the article, 1874 would have had the players available. I'm not sure if 1874 considered that if the original tie wasn't played, the rearrangement would be Wednesday instead (Morpeth's normal home night). Perhaps they hadn't prepared for that. Maybe the FA may have been amenable to a weekend rearranged date / replay, but if Morpeth say no (and were prepared to travel themselves midweek), I should think they won't get involved. Perhaps the lesson is - if you want a Saturday in the event of a rearranged game, agree it's a Saturday for the replay too, in advance.

I see you have already written off Ipswich Wanderers chances of progress then!

Mind you, I'm beginning to doubt that they will ever get to travel west. Their players would have run out of holiday enitlement from work by the time they are actually needed to travel west!

Cheeky! There's still no reason this can't be an East Anglia vs South East tie, especially as now the prize is a home draw in the next round as a bit of added motivation.

We just need Welton to get their act together, we're itching to go play our away day in the West. What would happen if it wasn't resolved by Saturday? That's short notice to find a vacant floodlit 3G pitch. Flip of a coin? Paper, scissors, stone?

Welton Rovers vs Bodmin Town has passed inspection and will be played tonight.

Will be heading up from Cornwall for it, hopefully see Bodmin get the win and then host Ipswich Wanderers in the 4th Round at Priory Park.

Normally found watching Bodmin Town or AFC Wimbledon

Following a number of postponements due to bad weather this season involving NWCFL clubs having to travel long distances midweek with weakened squads (and 1874 Norhwich withdrawing due to lack of players) the NWCFL committee have made a proposal to the F.A.that in future if a match outside a 100 mile distance is postponed on a Saturday the fixture should then be played the following Saturday.

I will not be expecting anything positive from this proposal.

Clubs can already do this.
Granted, up until the Third Round you need specific permission from the FA but after that you don't. Clubs just need to agree and put Saturday on the match arrangement form that gets sent to the FA.

That's the reason for the NWCFL approaching the F.A. To change the rules. It is because they were not allowing the match to be played the following Saturday.

Call me a cynic but with the best will in the world if you are the home club and the F.A. say play it on a Tuesday you are not going to agree to the following Saturday when you are probably facing a stronger team.

If it is a rule there can be no dispute or annoyance because a team won't agree to a suitable change. ( Or teams dropping out)

I'm afraid that I can't see much of a case for changing the rules to make them less flexible. Surely there could be instances in which a team seeking promotion with a potential fixture backlog would prefer a longer midweek journey, especially if it was, say, just over 100 miles mainly on motorway?
The Northwich example looks like an attempt to make a bad law on the back of a hard case. But in the end an agreement has to work both ways, they'd agreed a midweek replay and had therefore to accept midweek for the postponed fixture.

Been reading that the South Shields/Morpeth v North Shields (4th Round) game will be on the Saturday, 23rd January - the FA haven't updated the Vase Fixtures quite yet, guessing they are waiting till after the South Shields v Morpeth game on Friday

Insisting that a cup or vase game (or replay) is played on a Saturday can add significantly to fixture congestion. The league game scheduled for that Saturday will have to be postponed so if the cup game is called off due to pitch problems the clubs will have 2 games to find new dates for.
At least a postponed midweek replay will only add 1 game to the backlog.

Sat 16th Bodmin Town vs Ipswich Wanderers off - pitch failed inspection at lunchtime today.

Re-scheduled for next Saturday but after today's inspection the verdict is it will take favourable weather to have a playable pitch for next week.

That won't be true if the club in the Vase are the home side.

The fixture on the Saturday would have been postponed irrespective of it being a league or cup match!

Another day that Wanderers players might have had to take a day's holiday from work for no purpose!

I hope they do manage to take a strong side to Cornwall when it finally takes place, but I will be surprised if they will be at their strongest.

How I would love to go to Humber Doucy to see a 5th round match! What a tribute that would be to Roger Wasahlo & all the remaining people that work so tirelessly for the club.

Paul Crickmore, secretary, you have my admiration in managing to deal with this situation!

That's the reason for the NWCFL approaching the F.A. To change the rules. It is because they were not allowing the match to be played the following Saturday.

That's because the match arrangement form had a midweek replay day. The date is put on the FA website when they get the forms back.
In the First Round the Plymouth Parkway v Blackfield & Langley game was played the following Saturday after a postponement. They'd asked for, and got permission from the FA beforehand.
I suppose, in the end, it's down to how experienced club secretaries are.
I'm not against tweaking the rule to make it clearer and easier for clubs though.
