Fletcher, Leyton Orient

In the TV series, Fletcher watches Spurs play whilst on compassionate leave.

In the film, he says he's an Orient fan.

Just Googled "Dad's Army Pike scarf" and it's Aston Villa - Ian Lavender's team - but I'm not sure whether the character made any references to Villa.

Likely Lads, was it Newcastle Sunderland or a hybrid? http://www.britmovie.co.uk/...ly-lads-support.html

Inspector Rebus Hibs on TV but not in the books, and Clarke supports Hibs too.

Ken Barlow.............Weatherfield County

I can't really imagine Ken liking football tbh. Kevin Webster is a known Weathie County fan though, and sometimes goes to games (they played at Edgeley Park last time we saw them). Fred's late son Ashley and the erstwhile Les Battersby were also known County supporters.

David Platt is known to support Manchester United, but I can't think of any other characters who ever talk football.

Director Vance (NCIS) is known to have "sahker" as his sport of choice, but we don't know who he supports.

Your quite correct about football not being talked about in Corrie in fact when Man Utd won the historic treble it didn't even get a mention!!

Back in his younger days, Steve MacDonald was a Manchester United fan, while his brother was a City fan, with them sharing a bedroom divided down the middle into red and blue.

Also, Curly Watts was once shown drinking in the Rovers Return in a Manchester City scarf before heading off to a Boxing Day fixture, then back later nursing the foul taste of defeat with more pints.

Back in 1985, the soap opera Brookside did not shy away from mentioning the Heysel stadium riot, with an Everton-supporting character openly blaming a Liverpool fan for the fact that Everton would not be playing in Europe because of the ban.

The Everton fan on Brookside might have been Tinhead (Phillip Oliver, recently on Benidorm) who's bedroom was covered in EFC posters.

Remember The Dustbinmen, Granada sitcom 1970ish?

There was a character called Winston who always wore a Man City scarf.

In Phoenix Nights, Young Kenny always wears a Man City shirt (although apparently the actor is a United fan).

Plus there are the Bolton-supporting dwarves.

Was it the son of Jimmy Corkhill who went onto the be a Policeman having a go at Damian Grant who was a Liverpool fan in the series. That always irked Simon O'Brien who played Damian as he was a Evertonian in real life.

In the Liver Birds all of Beryl's family were Evertonians.

Racking my old braincells, there was a Wrexham fan who appeared briefly in Brookside as a lodger of Sinbad & Tinhead. They both thought initially he was a serial killer as there was a lot of noise coming from his bedroom when he first moved in. They got a shock when they found out instead he was a Wrexham fan.

Have managed to find the clip from about 6 minutes in.

With all those programmes (and carrying a fair amount of weight!), I thought the guy could well be the very first groundhopper in a UK soap.....

...until he mentioned about going to a RESERVE fixture! Wink
