Floodlit grounds with few midweek games Can't Post or Reply Privately

Doing my regular check on upcoming games using full time, I came across two interesting ones.
1) Congleton Vale v Grappenhall. 4 Feb. Listed by full time as Congleton School. I have a suspicion this is at Congleton Town
2) Leeds City v East End Park, 18 March at Adel WMA (which is Leeds City's normal ground currently). Is this a floodlit ground, or a combination of floodlit 3G plus normal grass, for which the grass is the normal Saturday ground?, or is the match actually somewhre else?

Congleton Vale's website lists them as playing at Congleton Town F.C. which is where they have played all season.

The fact that the Congelton Vale match was switched from yesterday (when Town had a game) to next Tuesday backs up that this is played at Booth Street.

Meanwhile, i see Altofts are staging the District cup matches, Woodhouse Hill v Wakefield City (25 Feb) and Hall Green v Horbury (4 March). I wish the West Yorkshire League would specify cup names, there are 13 districts in the West Riding - I love the name Heavy Woollen, but I assume Altofts is Wakefield

[There is one scheduled Heavy Woollen Wheatley Cup semi final scheduled, for 9 April at Ossett Albion - Howden Clough v Lower Hopton. The other is Littletown v Wyke Wanderers or Gildersome SOB, with the outstanding quarter final being played on 15 Feb).

In Lancashire, the County FA Ground in Leyland stages tonight's Trophy semi-final - Darwen v Chorley, and another next Wednesday, AFC Fylde v Bamber Bridge. then for the next two Wednesdays, they stage the Amateur Shield semi finals, first Wren Rovers v Prestwich Heys (19 Feb) and then Thornton Cleveleys v Rochdale Sacred Heart (26 Feb).

AFAIK, the semi-finals of the Amateur Shield are both scheduled to be played at Bamber Bridge. However, that could change if the wet weather continues, semis in the Amateur Cup and the Sunday Trophy have all been arranged and postponed at least a couple of times, and I think most if not all of them have yet to be played.

The finals of all three competitions are played in Leyland - they were originally scheduled for successive Fridays in March, but given the delays to the semi-finals, I suspect those dates will be subject to change.

The final of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy is staged at the Reebok Stadium.

There's an unusual midweek fixture listed on the Manchester Saturday Morning League's Full Time site.

Weds 12 March, Div 3 - Cassidys v Alkrington Dynamos.

Kick off listed for 10.15am, so if the fixture is correct the kick off time certainly isn't.

Cassidys play at William Hulme Grammar School in Manchester, which does have a floodlit all weather pitch, although I think the club usually plays on a grass pitch.

That's a shame, as it was my old school.

I can't advise on the pitch, as there were no football pitches, grass or otherwise, during my time there as the school then only played rugby union in the autumn and lacrosse in the spring, although they had played football in the past and resumed some time after I left in 1983 (and the Old Hulmeians, latterly Manchester South End, competed in the Lancashire Amateur League until the Second World War).

By the way, at least you spelled "Grammar" correctly, which is more than the Manchester Saturday Morning League website does!

Ah That answers a question that had been intriguing me for a while. So that is a floodlit venue then? I have seen fixtures at Castle Sports Centre in very minor leagues in the silly season. They are tempting to double up with the cricket you see...

Perhaps Lancs FA could change it to The Reebok on their fixture list then, for the benefit of us simple Yorkshire folk.

No doubt Chorley are listed as the first named side as they won the first semi-final, and therefore the default setting on the fixture lists most of the county FA's use will show their home venue unless someone changes it.

The vast majority of county FA's, Lancashire included, are useless at providing accurate information. However, I would not have thought it too difficult to check the fixture lists on either www.chorleyfc.com or www.afcfylde.co.uk both of which clearly state the correct venue.

The Lancashire FA likes to use telepathy as a means of communication
When I asked about seeing the team lists for one of the semi-finals, I was told I could not see them, and they would be announced over the tannoy system
This was not turned on at any point of the evening, but presumedly the details were telepathically transmitted
My receptor was not in full working order, so I resorted to asking the secretaries of each club - (AFC Fylde and Bamber Bridge), both of which were helpful.

It appears that the Gwent FA has sanctioned the midweek use of the four 3G pitches - at Lliswerry, Abertillery, Pontllanfraith and Ebbw Vale - in the county to enable Gwent County League clubs to catch up on the backlog of matches.

The two Gwent Amateur Cup Semi-finals have also been scheduled for midweek on 3G;

Ynysddu Welfare v Cwmffrwdoer Sports (Thurs 10th Apr, 7.15pm, at Abertillery 3G)
Blaenavon Blues v Pill (Tues 8th April, 7pm, at Ebbw Vale 3G)

It's a grass pitch. If you're not bothered about seeing the home team there all the leagues cup finals normally get played there late in the season - i.e. May onwards.

Two matches showing at Milnthorpe Corinthians.
The first, on March 25th is a reserve game against Poulton.
The second is on April 1st (so technically in the "silly season") against Ladybridge
They are also at home on April 8th, but by then there are a good number of 19.30 kick offs
The Milnthorpe games are all 19.30

Do Tideswell United still have plans to join the CML?
I have been reading Mike Parker's Mapping The Roads and he has an illustration of an old road atlas.
Tideswell is marked on as having a similiar elevation to Buxton and Alston nearly 1000ft.
Could this make it the highest ground in England?

Didn't spot it in this week's Traveller, but next Tuesday there's the first of several midweek matches in the Liverpool County Premier League:

Tues 7 Oct, Byron v Liver Academy

Tues 14 Oct, Lower Breck v Page Celtic

Tues 28 Oct, Waterloo Dock v Stoneycroft

All games are 8pm on the 3G pitch at the Liverpool County FA ground in Walton Hall Avenue, which is the listed home venue for Byron, Lower Breck and Waterloo Dock (as well as Roma). This is not the same pitch as the main Liverpool FA Ground, but is part of the same complex.

Fixture info taken from the league's Full Time website.

The Under 21 Premier League Cup Quarter Final, Derby County v Stoke City, is at the FA's St George's Park training centre at 6.30pm tonight (Monday 2 Feb). St George's Park told me it is open to spectators, and that it will be on "pitch five". I saw a game on that pitch a few weeks ago, so I'll give it a miss tonight.

Meanwhile a few unusual midweek games in Scotland ....

Tues 3 Feb, Caledonian League, Div 1 A, Broomhouse v Rannoch 8pm at Greenfield 3G, Duror Street (I think this is Broomhouse's regular venue)

Mon 16 Feb, Friendly, Beith Juniors v Ayrshire AFA Select XI, 7pm at Beith Astro

Weds 4 March, Caledonian League, Premier Div, Dalziel HSFP v Glasgow Harp, 8pm

Weds 18 March, Caledonian League, Premier Div, Dalziel HSFP v Westerlands, 8pm

Steve from a source that went, it was on pitch 5. There are 12 pitches a showcase ground and a 3g which Burton & District usually use at this time of year.Lot of trips to SGP for you Steve.

Game was OFF. The Caledonian league website suggests they play at the University of Strathclyde, Stepps P F. G33 6TP. Dont know if they have been playing their games there or elsewhere. When they were in the Greater Glasgow Premier AFL they were listed at Duror St , G32 6TW.

Once Stamford was confirmed as on I didn't check Broomhouse.

However, I suspect the postcode on the league website is a typo, which just happens to be Stepps PF. The postcode on the Greenfield Football Centre website is G32 6TP, so only one digit out, and the ground telephone number on the Caley League site is also the Greenfield number.

They've only managed one home league game so far though, so who knows?

Mick,
its a white, middle-class, meat eating, beer swilling, straight man here , please refer to Rule 776 , paragraph 3 , sub section d , article 9d) :- If a floodlit game (tick) is taking place at the same time as another non floodlit (tick) no matter what the mileage or the length of journey or the cost the non floodlit game shall take priority.
Please have a good read of the rule book as any further challenges to my authority will be punished.

Just to clear up as I've had 2 enquiries.
The game on March 4th v Glasgow Harp was on the Astro as the grass pitches were out of bounds then.
Think they want Rep game tonight on grass but I would guess both remaining games on Astro pitch.

Caledonian Leage website now shows the Westerlands game as off.

LEAFA's Twitter account posted photos from last night's rep game, which show that was on the 3G/Astro pitch.

Oakham confirmed for Wed with both clubs.Obviously to be checked on day for plague . bad weather etc.

Took the unusual step of actually contacting clubs personally, I appreciate it's a radical step in this day and age but I'm getting on and set in the old custums.

It always tickles me when posters say ''well it said it so on twitter'' or ''I saw it on facebook'' or my favourite ''well it wasn't on their website''.
Try bloody talking.

Weds 21 Oct, Sunderland Hall Farm v Sunderland University ... Hall Farm play at Leyburn Grove, briefly a Wearside League ground for Houghton Town.

Thurs 29 Oct, Blackhill & Ebchester v Sunderland University ... at Belle Vue Sports Centre, which I think was built on the site of Consett AFC's old ground.

According to their Twitter account (@ClydachWasps) they are playing FC Tredegar at 7pm on Tuesday 23rd Feb at Eugene Cross Park, the home of Ebbw Vale RUFC. It is FC Tredegars home fixture.

I visited the venue in 1977 for Ebbw Vale v Moseley it's well worth doing, as long as it hasn't been subjected to too many 'improvements'.

(Thanks to Laurence Reade for the heads up).

There is a game at the Garrison Ground Colchester on Tuesday this week (12th) where Coggeshall Town play Holland in the final of the Essex & Suffolk Border League Cup with a 7.30 kick off.
If you haven't been its well worth a visit.

Mulbarton Wanderers first two home games are under lights. Friday 19th August v Acle United (7-30) and Tuesday 23rd v Waveney (7-30), to my knowledge the lights haven't been used since Mulbarton United's demise.

I noticed on the Anglian Combination Full time site that Bungay Town v Harleston is down for 7:30 on Friday 9th September. In the Mummery Cup.

Also appears on Bungay's website as well. Will make a nice double with newly promoted Stalham town who are at home on Saturday in the same competition and have apparently joined the Barnes Print stable, so one for the paper chasers!

Not for the purists

Whilst Hayling Utd's first team have moved back to Hayling College, their reserves are remaining at Hayling Park.

However they have moved 3 midweek matches in August to Park Community School, Havant.

17th Hayling Utd Res v Fleetlands Res 6:45pm
24th Hayling Utd Res v Paulsgrove Res 6:45pm
31st Hayling Utd Res v Four Marks Res 7:15pm

Not definite, but I notice the Essex & Suffolk Border League have scheduled a lot of midweeks for Premier Division matches in August, and I notice on the 23rd, Harwich & Parkeston are due to be at home to Cinque Port. It's scheduled for 18:30, but I would not be surprised if this is put back by an hour, to be played under the Royal Oak lights. Harwich have an ex-Clacton manager now in charge who is still quite young and learning, and has hired a decent squad this season it seems.

Again, short notice. However Ipswich Wanderers Reserves v H&P was only reversed the other day, and will now be played under the Royal Oak lights tonight. If you are a bit of a goal whole, this might be the game for you, as IW have had some right batterings since joining the ESBL this season.

Also now penciled in for next Tuesday, is Harwich v Weeley - again under the lights. Probably the last one for a while.

Manchester Central have another home game scheduled for Wednesday 26th October according to Full Time. 1900 kick off vs. Westbury Sports Club.

Also showing on Full Time is Heywood St. James vs Bolton County with a 1830 kick on Saturday 22nd October. I assume this is probably a mistake as a look on Google Maps shows no floodlights. Might be wrong though

How long have Runton Utd had lights ?

July 1, 2019 to June 30,2020 = 17 / 16 / 1 / inc 1 x 0-0. (You know my rules) @ 19 / 07 / 2019.

If anyone fancies standing around a 3G cage in Newcastle, Wallsend Community vs Killingworth YPC in the Northern Alliance 1st Division is being played on Thursday 15/2 at the Walker Activity Dome 3G with a 6:30pm kick off. Listed on the Northern Alliance website and tweeted out by both clubs so seems promising. Don't believe this is in regular use either.

East Lancs league Div 1

Burnley United's home ground is hosting a few midweek games coming up. I saw on Twitter that they were saying that programmes were being produced for these (at least the 21 Feb one), not sure if that is normal for them or not. Hopefully I'll get to one of them:

Barden Athletics Track, Barden Lane, Burnley, BB10 1JQ

Wed 21 Feb KO 7pm - Burnley United v Read United
Wed 7 Mar KO 7pm - Burnley United v Whinney Hill
Wed 14 Mar KO 7pm - Burnley United v Burnley Belvedere
Wed 21 Mar KO 7pm - Burnley United v Barrowford Celtic

It's not that rare for evening games to take place under lights in this league; Peterborough Sports Reserves and Netherton United do so reasonably frequently. However I can't remember the last time that Warboys played at home under lights.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, apologies if so.

Next Monday, 12 March, Doncaster Town v Doncaster Deaf in the Doncaster Senior League. KO is 7.45 on the 4G pitch at the Keepmoat Stadium.

I can't make it, but if anyone goes I'd be interested to know which pitch that is. I assume the athletics stadium is still a grass pitch, but I've also done the caged pitch next door which was grass when I went but which might now be artificial.

There's also a 3G or 4G pitch to the north west of the athletics stadium, which would be a new ground for me (by my rules Wink).

The athletics track pitch certainly appeared to be grass when I ticked the main stadium in December.

Keepmoat Stadium complex...

athletics stadium pitch = grass
caged full-size pitch to north-west of a/s = artificial
caged full-size pitch to the north of a/s = now artificial - which I presume is the one they class as "4G" ?

Game played on Pitch 3 (aka New Astro) which is the one to the NW of the site, parallel to the Athletics Stadium. KO was 2000 rather than the 1945 shown on Full Time. Small area of designated spectator hard standing at one end but no issue viewing from pitchside.

Pitch 4 (aka Old Astro) to the NE was being used for a number of small-sided games.

Wednesday 18th April, 19:30 ko

Cambridge Veterans League
Kennett Youth v Bar Hill

They have newly installed LED floodlights and I think this will be the first game under them. As I understand it a new village hall for Kennett and Kentford, two villages straddling the Cambs/Suffolk border near Newmarket, has been funded by the sale a parcel of land in the area. The new village hall has been added onto the existing sports pavilion in Kennett. More cash was made from the sale than expected so the lights were added as part of the deal.

The ground is easily accessible by car off the A11 or via Newmarket town centre. Fair sized car park. There is a train station at Kennett but this has very limited service. You can get a train from Cambridge arriving at 19:12, just five minutes to the ground. Back to Cambridge at 22:07, that's it. Services from the Ipswich direction get you there at just after 6pm and leave before the end....

Info gleaned after chatting with the Kennett folk after I played (and lost) there today in the Vets League. I'm planning a return on the 18th.

However last night's game kicked off at 6.30, although the lights were switched on for last 10 minutes. The game could have easily finished without lights though.

According to Full Time, Anglian Combination Division One game Stalham Town v Reepham Town is being played on Friday 30th November at FDC @ Flegg 7-30pm kick off.

Watford FC supporter hence the name also follow Hull FC but rarely get to see either these days.

Have now visited over 800 grounds, progress in recent years has been rather slow and will continue to be as things stand.
