Would Rangers have equalled Celtic's 9 in a row?

Re: [MistaFozzII] Rangers go into Administation [In reply to] Can't Post or

If 'the right thing' IS done, Dundee get lifted into the SPL we already know.

However, there could be a right-old-mess developing if Rangers drop into SFL3, because there's no 'order of precedence' defined (afaik) with respect to which teams get promoted/reprieved to fill in the gaps.
I don't recall details in the Livingston affair, so don't know if that would shed light at all?

Otherwise I can see defeated 9th.-placed play-out & 2nd.-placed play-off semi-finalists and defeated 3rd./4th.-placed play-off finalists all claiming the vacancy in each division - without there ever having been made a formal preference as to who should have it! Chaos?

Will half-measures then be order-of-the-day? Rangers to SFL1?

Trusting that the right thing is indeed done then if i recall when Livi where demoted the runners up in the play offs took the 'spare' place in the league above. If that was the case now then its a step up for Airdrie and Stranraer.

, I think Rangers should have been sentenced and given a 1 year ban from SPL/SFL and a placed in the Junior Leagues as a punishment but with a clause in the deal that Rangers can be voted back after the first season if accounts are up to date and not in a financial mess, this kind of thing should act as a deterrent to everybody else...

Oh well, just my opinion

Fair point Leo, but thinking like that, what has the SFL to derserve them...

I am just thinking about punishment at the harsh end of the scale

Re: [MistaFozzII] Rangers go into Administation [In reply to] Can't Post or

Well, my first idea, which I placed earlier up the thread, was to enforce the team into a two-season 'sabbatical' where the punishment would be to have to play, spread over those two full seasons, each of the 40 (excluding Celtic, for the moment) SPL/SFL teams home and away in friendly-games.
In each of these seasons they would also be required to play four/five 'test-matches' versus Celtic, which would give them 40+5=45 games per season.
The receipts for each match would be placed in a kitty and equally distributed to the 41 other teams, following reasonable disbursement of expenses, etc. - at appropriate set times over that 24-month period.

This would necessarily leave the SPL with just the other 11 teams for that period, but I'm sure they'd manage, and hopefully the fact that there would be preserved those Auld-Firm derbies might further satisfy their Sky deal.

Presumably the vote is whether or not to allow them back into the SPL. If they answer is 'no' then it's down to the SFL whether or not to accept them. It's unlikely they would say no. I don't know the ins and outs enough to know whether it's possible for them to go into Div 1 or 2 or whether Div 3 is the only option.

I assume that HMRC are saying that Rangers were involved in tax evasion rather than avoidance.

As that appears to have been going on for a number of years, it seems to have given them an unfair advantage by being able to sign top quality players without paying the proper costs.

So, how many trophies did they pick up through this unfair advantage and do they count as part of the "proud history" that Charles Green is so keen to hang onto?

Something totally bizarre in The Sun to chew on (as spit out at the end):

Quote
RANGERS are looking at an astonishing plan to buy out League One club Bury — so they can play in England.

....

A source told SunSport: “Yes, Rangers really are thinking about this.

“They are in a position at the moment where they have no idea what the future holds.

“They don’t know whether they will be in the SPL next season and do not want to go to the bottom of the ladder.

“Acquiring an English club would get them the foothold they have always wanted down south.”

It is not clear whether the amazing plan to buy is even allowed under Football League rules in England or Scotland.

But there are precedents with Welsh club Swansea playing in the English Premier League and rivals Cardiff in the Championship.

Berwick is actually a town in England but their football team plays in Scottish Division Three.

Also, Wimbledon moved 60 miles north to Milton Keynes before being renamed Milton Keynes Dons in 2004.

Bury fans are sure to be furious at the suggestions to take their club more than 200 miles north.

Not clear that Rangers have understood a number of other rules over the past few seasons.

After the Wimbledon debacle, (and it was in response to the publicity generated by that), FIFA added a paragraph into their statutes

3. Altering the legal form or company structure of a club to facilitate its qualification on sporting merit and/or its receipt of a licence for a domestic league championship, to the detriment of the integrity of a sports competition, is prohibited. this includes, for example, changing the headquarters, changing the name or transferring stakeholdings between different clubs.

that would be a bit of a bombshell for Rangers looking for a way out that way.

Very forward looking of the FIFA. I wonder how binding a FIFA directive would be when the fur starts to fly and Rangers find themselves with fixtures in Div III next season.

"After the Wimbledon debacle"; recall also the Airdrie-Clydebank buy out.

It was a knee jerk reaction from FIFA caused by publicity, and Wimbledon was the main cause.
Take this rule and mention it in various countries around the world, such as the Czech republic, and Thailand and if you think it means anything, then expect them to laugh in your face. If you tried to move a club from Bury to Glasgow, the resultant publicity may be enough to make FIFA remember their own rules, but if you move it from Ayutthaya to Buriram, no one (in Zurich) is likely to notice. (The distances are roughly the same, although with no motorways in Thailand, the journey would take longer)

Re: [leohoenig] Rangers go into Administation [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

That FIFA ruling is very loosely worded. A clever lawyer could get past it easily enough, arguing that what was being done didn't actually undermine the integrity of the competition.

If it was added reasonably soon after the Wimbledon/MK case, then it was before Airdrie took over Clydebank, and it certainly didn't prevent that. And if it was intended to be strictly interpreted then it bans "changing the headquarters", i.e. no more selling grounds for housing and moving somewhere cheaper!

But FIFA aren't relevant to this precise suggestion. FIFA's rule may be unclear, and the SFA may lack a rule altogether, but the FA changed its rules and worded them so strongly that Rotherham weren't allowed to have a permanent home the wrong side of a local authority boundary. Rangers might be able to buy Bury, but Bury can't move to Glasgow and stay in the football league.

I hope this was a spurious Sun story, rather than the new owners of Rangers demonstrating the same attitude to rulebooks that their predecessors had.

Sufficient SPL clubs have stated they will vote against the Newco being admitted to the SPL. Well done Hearts, Dundee United, Hibernian, Aberdeen, St Johnstone and Inverness Caley Thistle. Shame on the others.

Next step is an EGM of the SFL to change the rules so that Rangers can parachute into Division 1. Only 8 clubs need oppose the change for Rangers to be blocked.

Raith Rovers and Falkirk are the first to publicly declare 'No'. Others under strong pressure from their fans to follow suit.

I'd imagine the 3rd Division sides will also say 'No' as they would prefer any Newco to apply for Division 3.

At that point Mr Green will surely do a runner.

There's a strong chance Rangers will be consigned to history within the next few weeks.

I really can't see it happening. Somehow, someway they'll be playing in the scottish league next year. I doubt it will be as low as division 3 as well.

To be fair to the others, they simply haven't made statements either way. Some have said they'll consult their fans, other have made comments about the effects it might have but I don't believe any have said they'll vote 'yes'.

As for the SFL, if they vote to put them in Div 3 then all teams will get a go at them over the next 3 years except those who get relegated during the seasons they get promoted which I'd have thought would be a big reason to make them start at the bottom.
