Each to their own but never got the 'Spoons' thingy.....

Surely as a chain, most are the same no?

The few I have frequented appear to full of professional
piss-heads and women for whom the 20 foot barge pole was made.

Hamilton Hall of course is an entirely different prospect...might
have a little wander up there once the weather warms up and
the skirts get shorter...Tongue

No, not at all, each Wetherspoons is quite different, I like the fact they use old buildings and show the history and old photographs on the walls. Not to mention the range of different beers.

Yes you can get bad pubs (Hamilton Hall!) but generally they are most acceptable Wink

New Spoons visited in Melksham today. Handy for those wanting to pay a last visit to the Conigre in its final season...

Unusually it was a pub before, an average one, and is now a Spoons so thats some improvement in the town which is full of very average Waddies joints.

Gateshead away. My god you were poor. The second half it looked like all your players contracts were up after that game!

Well it was a nothing game by that stage so I stayed well away from that one!

2 more Wetherspoons ticked today, Hammersmith Lloyd's bar which was excellent! They had Broadside, ESB and Hobgoblin on! I chose the latter and it was a perfectly served pint, went down a treat with my beef and ale pie Tongue
By contrast I then moved on to Fulham, and the Lloyd's bar there was rubbish, took 3 attempts to find a beer that was on!
First time I've been to the area and have to say its a dump, would describe it as a place that thinks its posh but its not Crazy
When you are selling Chelsea merchandise in Fulham it says it all for me about the joke that is the Premiership, quite pleased there are no Wetherspoons in Chelsea! Smile

One of the issues I have with the chain is the pumpclips not being turned round when the beers arent on, plus the staff not knowing which ones are on anyway!

If you think Fulham is bad, try going to Reading and finding a Reading shirt in a sportshop. Bloody place is full of Arsenal fans! That even applied the first year Reading were in the Premiership, all you could get was Arsenal tops!

They did start putting 'available soon' on them but this obviously hasn't reached all pubs yet Crazy

Oh no "Available Soon" is their House Beer LOL. That is also irritating. What use is a beer "available soon"??.

I think they are told to leave the clips facing to get punters in, as once you are in you are less likely to walk out when you find your favourite beer isn't available until next week and you have a choice of something at 6.5% (at lunchtime) or Ruddles Tramp Juice.

It would save them a lot of hassle when its busy to just do what any other pub does and leave the clips turned round until the beer is ready.

Off topic but same applies to Chester & Stirling. Infact bizarrely the tiny Chester town centre club shop only opens three days a week and not Saturday.

Obviously not looking for Reading shirts in the above towns.

I have never been in a 'Spoons in Edinburgh. There are so many fantastic pubs there it would just mean missing one of them out, particularly since I am not a big drinker. Even the GBG is pretty useless there as they seem to habitually leave out some of the best pubs. My top 3 Edinburgh pubs aren't in it and one does 8 Real ales AND has a traditional Edinburgh grumpy barman who I actually heard call someone a "P***" for ordering lager! Not politically correct but funny all the same!

Said barman had been offended by this posh English students woeful attempts to pronounce "Deuchars" (something like "Doitchers" was what came out) so the ordering of a pint of chemical fizz tipped him over the edge! Smile

Fantastic City for drinking now, when I was at Uni there it had about 3 decent pubs.....Frown
