Sorry, it was a poorly researched reply that I thought I could delete before too many members could see it. Obviously not quick enough.

I think it's only the UK where there is a national obsession in having the National Stadium a neutral venue.

Stade de France for starters.

That's why I said "I think it's only" rather than "We are the only". There are probably others but I'd imagine they are the exceptions, rather than the rule.

There are others but def the exceptions.
Shan't mention them as you only thought that was the case.

I seem to recall Greece being praised (gallant underdogs etc) for winning Euro 2004 that way.

Are you suggesting that Chelsea, as one of the representatives of The Best League In The World should be considered underdogs in the CL? I thought they were supposed to be one of the elite?

I am sure Chelsea would have settled for penalty kicks before the game even started and they were at a disadvantage playing a final on an away clubs ground. It could happen again in 2014 with Benfica playing a final on their own ground. Surely these brainboxes within UEFA have got to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Next season (2013)it is at one of the few National stadiums that is not a club venue.

Well obviously I'm gutted.
But well done to Chelsea. They showed a lot of those round spherical objects. And Bayern only have themselves to blame.

Someone told me that the bus that Chelsea used for the victory parade today was the same one that they had parked in the Barca (twice) and Bayern goals Tongue

And so have we. We should have had third place wrapped up before the end of the season. As I said to Youngster on Saturday afternoon, Chelsea will win and Spurs will have found a novel new way of blowing the chance of qualifying for the Champions League without even playing. Unsure

Now I expect us to lose Modric and possibly Bale and Van der Vaart as well. Mad

I'm sorry I tempted fate by even hoping that Bayern might win.

No law against parking the bus and then outpsycing the Germans on penalties, meanwhile Arsenal, who tried too 'out Barca' Barca today celebrate the 7th anniversary of their last trophy win.

Is it only me but I thought the last two Bayern players to take pens had a decidedly English (ie rabbit in headlights) look as they came up for their pens so I wasn't too suprised when they failed to score.

My thoughts exactly and apparently Robben didn't want to take one after having one saved earlier. I thought Cech completely outwitted Schwienstieger and the player before him (can't remember his name) just looked as though he was never going to score.

This might seem like heresy coming from a Spurs fan but I too prefer watching Arsenal to Chelsea. I've also come to dislike Chelsea intensely. Firstly because their chairman is, in my opinion, a crook and the only reason he's where he is now is because he's a mate of Putin. Under different circumstances he'd be languishing in a russian gulag with those who weren't Putin's mates when he was 'elected'.

Then we have the toxic trio of Drogba, Terry and Cole. All players cheat, I realise that. But Dodgy Drogba spends more time lying on his back writhing around than a cheap whore. Then we come to the other two. Whether they like it or not sportsmen and women have a duty to conduct themselves in a way that gives a good example to kids and doesn't tarnish the reputation of their clubs. I think that's a very small price to pay for the riches they are payed.

Cole and Terry fail abjectly in this respect. All those people who tar all proffessional footballers with the same negative and damning brush need look no further than these two to find headlines of thuggery, greed and downright arrogance. Add to that the accusations of racism for which Terry has yet to answer for and it paints the worst possible picture of the modern footballer.

My hope is that at some point Abramovich will get bored and pull his money out. Unfortunately, unless the fit and proper persons test is amended and applied so as to actually mean something, I fear some other equally unfit person will slide into the chairman's chair.

I suspect most Gooners would be happy to 'win ugly' now and again if it meant something for the trophy cabinet.

I don't mind watching tight tactical games sometimes although I appreciate that sort of football isn't everyones cup of tea.

Yet again I agree with you. I'd go further and say that Arsene Wenger was the manager we should have had, with his football philosophy and style.

As for Chelsea...I've always disliked them more than Arsenal, except in the early 70s, when they were both disgusting, for different reasons.
It started for me in 1967, when all the people at primary school that I disliked wanted Chelsea to win the FA Cup Final, through the obnoxious 'flash 70s', through the racist 80s (anyone disputing this should read about Paul Canoville, the first black player to play for them http://www.kickitout.org/538.php) right through to today, with Terry and Cole (he seems to have matured in the last couple of years, IMO). I actually quite like Drogba, terrific player, he just plays for the wrong team. Abramovitch is for me merely a symbol for a lot of clueless (about football) chairmen, it's just that he has more money than most, and is an extremely ruthless businessman. Ironic being in charge of Chelsea that he has Jewish origins. I went to Stamford Bridge to watch the FA Youth Cup Final a couple of years ago and saw a lot of the old Chelsea crew, with their sons.... it's going to be there for a while yet.

My hope is that at some point Abramovich will get bored and pull his money out.
I'll drink to that!

Maybe now that he has achieved his "dream" of winning the Champions League he will decide that there is nothing else to win with Chelsea.

Could it be that their biggest trophy to date signals the start of their demise?

It's a nice thought but I can't see it happening, especially if they push ahead with a new stadium.

I suspect that if Tottenham hadn't thrown away that two goal lead at The Emirates Wenger would be out now.

I know a few Gooners and they are far from happy as it is, they don't care about Wenger's philosophy and style they want something in the trophy cabinet.

Whereas Gareth Bale never ever hurls himself to the floor at the slighest breath more 20 yards away from him Wink

& whilst agreeing Terry is not the kind of bloke you'd want your daughter to bring home, I'd hardly say Jermain Defoe is a beacon of morality either!

I couldn't agree more. As I said earlier, all players cheat. It's just that my perception of Drogba is he does it far more than the average player.

I also agree with what you say about Defoe. But again, Terry's and Cole's exploits leave most other players in the shade. There is also the arrogance that goes with their behaviour, for example in that game where the ref was calling Cole over to give hom a yellow card and he refused to go to the ref. In my view the ref should have changed it to a red just for Cole being an arrogant twat.

Man Utd have already equalled Liverpool's record of 86 points set in 2009 - the highest number of points for the team finishing second in the Premier League.Wink

Just realised I was wrong!

The previous record was held by Manchester United, who finished second with 88 points in 1995. They've broken their own record, finishing second with 89 points this season.

Some bitterness being displayed here!!!! Firstly Chelsea's Chairman is American not Russian!! And citing Drogba, Cole and Terry is just nonsense and just a populist view IMO. Much worse offenders than them. we could name hundreds of players who are divers, and hundreds who have had marital problems. Why just go after the same people! And why base your views on tabloid headlines!!! normally get a much more rounded opinion on this site. And of course people prefer Arsenal. They have not won anything anything for ages. Nothing makes you more unpopular in England than success.

Weren't Spurs the first team to 'go commercial' back in 80s. Seem to remember a quote from Burkinshaw that 'there used to be a football club over there'!
