PROPOSED LEAGUE CONSTITUTION REVEALED

The Northern Counties East League has today published its proposed constitution for the 2011/12 season.
Teams leaving the league are Premier Division champions Farsley AFC who have been promoted into the EvoStik League whilst Division One side Leeds Carnegie tendered their resignation towards the end of the last campaign.
We wish both clubs the very best of luck for the future.
Currently, it is proposed that four teams are brought into the NCEL with two coming from the EvoStik League, Retford United and Ossett Albion, into our Premier Division.
Central Midlands League champions Sheffield Parramore would be promoted into our league and become a Division One side but they will be called Worksop Parramore due to their move to Sandy Lane.
And, Albion Sports would come into the league from the West Riding County Amateur League.
That would mean that each division would consist of 21 teams and look as follows:

Was there no way that Brodsworth could have gone to a more appropriate level? I'm not an insider, so i don't know how this all works when the doors close and the room fills with smoke (so bear with me!). Just wondered about this as it surely can't be good for the club to go through another season here can it?

I think Albion are going to upgrade their ground at Myra Shay in the future, I don't they plan to stay at Horsfall long term.

I reckon this is mostly to do with the Enfield grading problem, 'coz Ossett Albion will be reprieved from relegation should Enfield become rejected for Step4 football.

Apparantly, the BPA 'sugar Daddy' Bob Blackburn is unable to fund the development of the new ground in the current economic climate, so the plans are on hold for the time being.

Just as well, in my opinion, as who wants to watch football being played in a ground that (at best) can only attract a crowd to fill 10% of its (rumoured 20,000) capacity? All it would take is for the sugar Daddy to walk away and BPA probably wouldn't even have the finances to play at their own ground!

Locals to the area are all too familiar with these 'pie in the sky' ideas, as for years we have read in the local paper that Odsal Stadium was going to become the 'Wembley of the North' and have a 100,000 capacity and become a regular stage for FA Cup semi finals, Rugby League semis/finals/Internationals and would host some of the biggest and best music concerts in the Country.

These stories have been on the go since the 1980's (at least). What I think we should be doing is taking inspiration from Huddersfield's ground, which has a much more realistic capacity, has hosted RL Internationals and if I'm not mistaken (I'm sure Rob Grillo will correct me, if I'm wrong!) has hosted REM and Bon Jovi gigs over the last 15 years or so. Never mind, perhaps my 3 year old son will live long enough to watch sport being played in the Odsal Super Stadium and the opening of the Sir Bob Blackburn ground, as I'm 38 and not sure I'll live long enough to see itCrazy

There was speculation that Albion would attempt to ground share at Farsley, following the demise of Leeds Carnegie but as I've heard nothing more on this, I assume they are indeed sharing at Horsfall, a venue I've seen them play FA Sunday Cup games at in the past.

But to gain entry they had to finish in top two of the CM League. That is normally the rule for promotion from an OFFICIAL Step7 League to Step6 as this would be and they were only 4th. Anyway hasn't the draft constitution for next season already been published and it includes Parramore (Sheffield/Worksop or wherever ?) who finished as champions of CM League.

Where exactly does the West Riding County Amateur League fit into things? It doesn't seem to appear on the Pyramid structure like the West Yorkshire League does, yet Albion Sports have gained access from it to the NCEL.

Neither the West Yorkshire nor West Riding County Amateur leagues are 'officially' part of the pyramid.
The West Riding league is the stronger in terms of playing ability (Silsden, Brighouse & Hemsworth have also progressed in recent years) although the West Yorkshire league has overall better facilities.

They are very much rival leagues - the West Riding 'Bradford-based' & the West Yorkshire 'Leeds based'

Thanks for clearing that up. I was going by ThePyramid.info website which has the West Yorkshire League feeding into the Northern Counties East League. http://www.thepyramid.info/asp/pyramid3.asp PS, any idea why Bay Athletic refuse or are denied promotion from the WRCAL, having won it 4 years running? I'm presuming it's down to ground grading or finances but was just curious.

They've only won it once (officially) as their 2006 victory over Sherburn was chalked off for fielding ineligible players.

Speaking of the WRCFA, I see they too have adopted the standard website layout/design that other County FA's have. Its a shame, as their old site used to contain all the previous winners since their inception. Now it only goes back to 2004/05

I understand Bay are being turfed out of the Syngenta complex after HTAFC bought it for their new training centre and moving further down Leeds Road. They won't own that or have a long lease so little chance of improving facilities there. It's a shame as on the field they're more than good enough.

A shame also Knaresbrough aren't going up. I'm all for new teams in the NCEL but it's a little disappointing when both Albion and Parramore groundshare and neither appear to be self sustaining to any degree. I really wouldn't be surprised to see Parramore merge with Worksop in the next few years.

Knaresborough withdrew their application a few weeks ago, having realised they wouldn't have floodlights in place in time.
Re-Kinsley Boys + finishing in 'a promotion place': I wonder why this isn't made more specific, or if it's left vague deliberately to make things easier for the NCEL at this point in time? I spoke to one of Kinsley's officials during the CML hop about this & asked if the NCEL had told them what constituted a promotion place (having said I assumed it'd be top 2), and he said they hadn't been told specifically, but that they were hoping that top 3 would be enough. 4th sounds to be pushing it a bit, but good luck to them. 21 team divisions are bobbins anyway!

PS Brodsworth shall rise again.... I've got a feeling they're going to win at least one game this season Smile (it is their centenary next year after all).

And ONLY ONE CLUB can be promoted from a Step7 to Step6 per season. At least that is generally the rule unless there are vacancies at Step6 and clubs are invited to fill them but that would depend upon the Step7 League allowing them to leave. As Parramore have already taken the CML slot for promotion then Kinsley should not even be considered.

Presumably that's what the reasoning would be - at last shout the NCEL was saying that Div1 will have 'between 20 and 22' clubs in it next season, to be finalised at the AGM in June. Albion Sports, Parramore and Kinsley were all recommended for entry on ground issues, and the first two are already on the 'provisional' list with 21 teams. Aside from the problem it might leave for the CML, it seems fairly logical for Kinsley to suggest howzabout a 22 team division instead.

I'm not sure what right Kinsley Boys have in joining the league over Blidworth Welfare or Pinxton - if those two teams can't apply/aren't allowed in, why should Kinsley be?

Pinxton didn't apply, + Blidworth failed the ground criteria.

If there is a vacancy and Kinsley want to fill it why not ? I thought Pinxton & Blidworth would be in the East Mids Counties catchment area anyway ?

Well yes, but Tevie and Shirebrook are NCEL clubs too and not far away from those respective teams either. I believe Kinsley would have to at least have some cover at their ground? Even Handsworth and Askern had a teeny-tiny bit when they applied!

If my recollection of the aforementioned conversation I had the fella there is correct, I believe they did have some fairly low-tech/easily dismantlable cover, which was taken down while the building work behind the goal was being completed (hence if you went to the CML hop game you won't have seen it).

Went to Kinsleys final league game, they had just finished building a 20yard covered section behind the goal at the clubhouse end. They told me they are having a seated kit stand behind the far dug out, which should be in place for the start of the season!

No doubt this will be to cater for all the extra fans, not to mention the hordes that will follow them from Brodsworth.
Given that clubs fate in the last two years or so the committees should be encouraging them to stay, not putting obstacles in their way.
But then of course we'd be stepping on the toes of the all powerful ground grading comittee whose own self-importance is bigger than the league.

Is that because of problems with vandalism?

Instead of trying to play at Keepmoat No 2 pitch, wouldn't they be better off sharing with Askern?

It's hard to get definitive info on the club, so this is just me trying to join up what limited info has been made available....

Last season's set up seem to have decided to move to the Donny Senior League to try and rebuild, because they haven't the resources to justify remaining in the NCEL. This club are planning on still using the Welfare Ground, and will join up under the Broddy name with another local team who were in it last year - running first and reserve teams in separate divisions. Hence their webpage suggests a club in the D&DSL only, and using the Welfare Ground for home games.

Another set of people want to keep the NCEL place, and were proposing playing at the Keepmoat.

How much (if any) overlap there is between the two in terms of personnel, and what the situation is regards use of the club's name and the Welfare ground... or whether the two could work something out together (maybe what the above 'sort their troubles' suggestion is relating to) seems to be an unknown quantity at the moment.

I think the problem with Keepmoat's second pitch is that you can easily see the game from outside the ground - one of the grading issues for NCEL clubs. We were told off before as you could see through the bars in the main gate - which has now been blacked out.

This seems to be one of those things that is not applied evenly across the country. One end of Whitton United's ground is a chain link fence that is open to anyone walking or driving past (they seem to make a bit of money out of advertising hoardings at that end of the ground!). Plus of course there are several clubs in step 6 playing in parks that have no access restrictions (Downham, Olney)...

The rule about not being able to see in from outside only applies at step 4 and above now. It used to be step 5 but it got changed a year or two ago.

I've heard Askern were ready to offer Broddy a groundshare but that was withdrawn - no idea why. Aside from problems with vandals etc I'm not sure why they're looking to leave their current ground.

JohnD - Brodsworth Welfare do still play on their own ground.
Its long story but Brodsworth Welfare are now in the Doncaster senior league after having absorbed Adwick Park Rangers.
The old Brodsworth Welfare were booted out of the ground, but they have reformed as Brodsworth and are looking for somewhere to play if they are 'remain' in the NCE.

Thanks for that. I knew it was on the cards but not that it had actually happened. The bloke behind the continuing MW club ran Frickley Colliery last year although he's not approached Frickley for a MW groundshare yet.

Not sure what other options there are for them. What state is Bentley in these days?

The number through the gates is not important. What is required is the ability to raise enough players and officials, and to raise enough cash for expenses. At this level the expenses have to be raised through subs, sponsorship and/or single benefactors. Spectators do not matter.

Brodsworth have opted for sharing with Featherstone Rovers RLFC. The NCEL website says that the two clubs have a one year agreement with the intention to make it permanent.

I'm not sure how good this is for Broddy as there were a number of nearer options and aren't Featherstone planning to move at some point?

Not any more I don't think. They recently bought two stands from Scarborough, and were planning on installing them + moving the pitch + developing the land round it instead. May still be subject to planning permission.
Gonna be a bit empty though with a capacity of roughly 150 times Broddy's average crowd!

Shouldn't Long Eaton United be playing in the Midland Alliance?

No they should be playing in the NPL instead of Farsley FC back door entry !

This can only make sense if there are some investors from Feath involved so look out for a name change soon.

If you follow the link to Brodsworth's website from the NCEL site, it goes to "Featherstone Rovers FC" and it says, "hopefully a change of name will be in play for next season".

It's now rumoured Featherstone have gone back on the groundshare so Broddy have nowhere to play next season. It looks likely they'll resign from the NCEL.

The end for this particular Broddy /Featherstone ?

I watched them play at Frickley last night and a father of one of the players told me they would be playing on the land immediately to the north of the main stadiumd. Checking it out on Google maps shows that there may be floodlights but no hard standing or cover. Not even railed either so don't know what the NCEL will make of that if it is true. If they are thrown out of the league it will be a shame as they did quite well last night and actually took the lead after only 40 seconds before eventually going down 3-1. Suspect they would climb of the bottom and finish somewhere in mid table judging by the performance.

Such footballing prowess could quickly alienate any of their old fans.
Maybe they could try College Grove in Wakefield? Last time I went past a couple of weeks ago it was still completely intact as a football ground, so maybe the fella with the geese got his way.

Now confirmed on NCEL website. Division 1 constitution also adjusted to 20 clubs.
It says they were left without a ground after Featherstone Rovers withdrew their offer of a groundshare.

While it's a shame to see any kind of club fold, to be fair though the club celebrating its centenary is surely the one who still exist, play in Brodsworth and are in the Donny Senior League next season. The one who've withdrawn from the NCEL would to all intents & purposes have no connection with the traditional Brodsworth Welfare club, and most likely have changed their name to Featherstone in a year's time.

Their last away league win was on Saturday 11th October 2008 away at Armthorpe!

I'm guessing there may have been some external influence in the run up to the game for that one?
