New menu! I've had food in Spoons just a few times before, but had a Brunch Burger on Friday evening in Sheffield, fantastic Cool.

Had the large full breakfast on Saturday morning as well, almost beat me and I'm rarely filled up. Cool

Wetherspoons is an old style (ie: back when they were cheap and everywhere) "Little Chef" with beer.

Even down to publishing a Map so you can tick them off.

Most of them in my experience have very poor bar service (one near where I worked in Swindon used to have a staff changeover at 4PM just when the offices kicked out and many times only one member of staff on duty at that time. I more than once walked out).

Far too many outlets have pumpclips turned round to face the punters even though the beer is "off" and clueless staff that dont know this, and dont get me started on their house beer "Available Soon".

The Lloyds Number Ones are best avoided, particularly after 8PM when they go all out for the Pre-club crowd. Some others in larger towns have replaced the Park as the hangout for the local tramps and pikeys due to the cheap drink prices (Ruddles tramps delight 99p !)

The food is very good value if you stick to the basics particularly the breakfast menu.

In places where there are very few good independent pubs they are a godsend though, my local one in chippenham is actually very good and if you can avoid the 10-4 tramp and pikey crowd its a good place to have a meal and a pint before going on to the Three crowns.

In bigger towns I tend to avoid them, places like Shrewsbury and Brighton are full of truly excellent pubs and the 'spoons really only a useful way to get a cheap mid-crawl meal. I notice a number of people on here going to places that are full of superb independent pubs and only visiting the 'Spoons, and I despair, but I am writing them to beg they open one in Calne!!

I have been to five GBG pubs in Cambridge, all of which are much nearer the Station, and I think one of the football grounds, than the nearest 'Spoons.....Two of these were quite excellent, the Elm Tree being my favourite.

Worst Spoons visited: Telford : had one beer on other than Ruddles at midday on a weekday and was a mess inside, full of chavs and pissheads (mind, so was the rest of Telford), the one nearest the station in Swindon is also awful , the "Groves Company". keep walking and a few yards further on is the "Daniel Gooch" which is much better. the one in the Town Centre in Taunton...had a wide variety of "Available Soon" and "Pumpclip not turned round" with staff constantly going to those pumps thus causing a big queue to build up. There is a newer one in Taunton thats much better but farther from the Station. "Robert Peel" in Bury...I am not kidding but EVERY time I have ordered food there theyve cocked it up.....

The 'Benjamin Fawcett' in Driffield is nice, opened about 6 months ago. Much better than the 'Spoons in Brid.

I know Telford is not perfect but I don't think its quite THAT bad, I've never had any problems there Crazy
As for Bury, YES my experience is exactly the same as yours! Awful pub Frown

That wouldn't be difficult! I tried to get served in the Bridlington one once but I think I would still have been there now had I not given up and left it for another day Crazy

That sounds about right. I usually seem to become invisible as soon as I approach the bar.

Oxford has had 3 Wspns for a year or 2 - as well as the 4 Candles (less bad than it was as a Yates) and the Wm Morris, there's now one called the Swan & Castle near the Westgate Centre and the Malmaison Hotel (old prison). Has a very similar atmosphere to the bar of a Dover-Calais ferry. If you drink enough, the floor moves in a similar way too. If you like your ale and find yourself in Oxford, search out the Royal Blenheim, a street further along.

Without trawling throught the whole thread, has anyone ever stopped in any of the Wetherspoon's hotels? Particularly The King's Head in Monmouth.

Stayed at The Catherine Wheel in Henley on Thames for two nights in September 2010 when attending the North Berkshire Hop.
Quite reasonable though the entertainment was a bit noisy on the Saturday night it being a Lloyds.
