The Smiths/Vicar In A Tutu

I was minding my business
Lifting some lead off
The roof of the Holy Name church
It was worthwhile living a laughable life
To set my eyes on the blistering sight
Of a vicar in a tutu
He's not strange
He just wants to live his life this way

A scanty bit of a thing
With a decorative ring
That wouldn't cover the head of a goose
As Rose collects the money in a canister
Who comes sliding down the banister ?
The vicar in a tutu
He's not strange
He just wants to live his life this way

The monkish monsignor
With a head full of plaster
Said : "My man, get your vile soul dry-cleaned"
As Rose counts the money in the cannister
As natural as Rain
He dances again
My god !
The vicar in a tutu
Oh yeah
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh ...
The vicar in a tutu
Oh yeah
Oh ...

The next day in the pulpit
With Freedom and Ease
Combatting ignorance, dust, and disease
As Rose counts the money in the cannister
As natural as Rain
He dances again and again and again

In the fabric of a tutu
Any man could get used to
And I am the living sign
And I'm a living sign
I am a living sign
I'm a living sign
I am a living sign
I'm a living sign
Sign ...
I am a living sign

Robot World by Bailterspace from 1993

Think Mogwai but better.

Saw them play a rare UK Gig in Islington in 1995. How they can get so much noise from one guitar is amazing

Two CD's I brought back from Orkney, from locally based artists:

The Chair - Huinka - never did diddlydee folk music sound so much fun, especially when accompanied by 15yr old Scapa cask strength Malt Whisky (57.1%, hic Tongue)

Jo Philby - Saltwater and Stone - not ever being much into folk music, this could convert me. The lass has some voice and whether singing solo or accompanied the hairs on your neck stand on end, it's absolutely sublime.

I never saw them live, but remember buying most of their early stuff from an indie record shop in Sheffield city centre near Castle Market. I was sold on them because the guy in the shop told me they were from Leeds... kind of. Unsure

Alright i know i am Preaching to the converted here.
But Rhythm and Blues came to the fore late 40's with
the likes of Louis Jordan,Big Joe Turner,Wynonie Harris and
T Bone Walker,to name a few.
This lead to Fats Domino and Chuck Berry in late 50's.
And Ray Charles took us to Sam Cooke and begat my
Soul favourite Otis Redding.
So how the F did we end up with the God Awful cacophony
of crap that takes the name today of R'N'B.

So here's a couple of songs that i think bring the true feel
of soul and R'n'B back.

Black Keys-Too afraid to love you .

Liam Bailey-Summer Rain.

Re: [fredkirkbytown] Musical Snapshot [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

And while we are on Liam Bailey.
How about this Record Shop in Nottingham.
Robs Records.
It's down a narrow dingy alleyway, that not many go down.
The owner has been purchasing record collections for over
25 years,acumulating over 250,000 records,CD'S and Tapes,
stuck them in boxes and piled boxes on top of boxes.
He gave up organising and cataloguing them over 10 years ago.
If you ask for a particler record, the owner Rob Minit will point in
a kind of general area, and say "Its over there somewhere" or
"Yes,good luck finding it".
Someone found a rare Beatles record worth £450.
The narrow lanes around the pile are about 12 inches just about
enough room to get pass another record collector in a kind of
one way system.

Johnny Cash/The Man Comes Around

Last studio album he released before his death.

Mainly covers but from the likes of Nine Inch Nails (Hurt), Depeche Mode (Personal Jesus), The Beatles (In My Life), Sting (I Hung My Head),

and his own title track.
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts... And I looked and behold, a pale horse And his name that sat on him was Death And Hell followed with him

Rush/The Spirit Of Radio

All this machinery making modern music
Can still be open-hearted.
Not so coldly charted
It's really just a question of your honesty, yeah,
Your honesty.
One likes to believe in the freedom of music,
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity.

My italics. I thought of Simon Cowell as I listened to these lines. Unsure

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy-Another Day Full of Dread.

A rare performance from when he was young and clean shaven.
Though it was only 10 years ago.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkpiD27mb4o

And just in case some of you haven't heard him before here's another.
I think he's a poetic genius.

"I gave you a house
But you didn't haunt it
And now where am i supposed to live."

"Baby,Oh! Baby, why must you escape from it
This love that we once called a friend."

"I gave you ten lives and you wasted twenty
Now i'm standing empty, helpless and bare
Without a morsel, left,of me to give
And you,you have vanished into the air
The air in which i must live."
