Boston United expulsion appeal Can't Post or Reply Privately

To be held next Wednesday 11 June, which is 4 days after the Conference AGM. However, the UniBond AGM isn't until the 14th, so would common sense prevail and the Conference place us in their league on Saturday, pending the appeal. Or will they mess Leigh RMI about, and place them back in Conference North - with the possibility of then re-relegating them?

I would expect the Conference AGM to leave Boston out of their constitution, and then play with an extra club if Boston's appeal is upheld.

Yes. I imagine they would fully expect Boston's appeal to fail so they won't be included.

Better to run with an extra team than one too few!

I don't agree.

Why reprieve Leigh if Boston's appeal is successful? Having finished bottom of the league, they can have no complaints if relegated.

If Leigh are not happy about having to wait an extra few days to find out if they are reprieved, offer another team the chance to move up instead.

On a separate point, I'm sure everyone would agree that these end of season reprievals are making a mockery of the leagues. We'll soon be promoting teams that have finished mid-table in the league below!

Still bitter eh? Wink

Pre-1970 football programmes wanted. Good prices paid for good condition collections. Have thousands for sale, League and Non League. PM with wants lists or for quotes. Especially required pre-1978 Romford home and aways, plus FA Trophy programmes from any rounds from seasons 69-70 and 70-1.

No. What's in the past is in the past as far as I'm concerned. Their past misdemeanours have already caught up with Boston, and personally (although I know there are many who don't share this sentiment) I feel sorry for the innocent majority of their supporters who have suffered through it all. I just think that having made the ruling the Conference will expect their ruling to be upheld, otherwise they wouldn't have made it. I imagine the appeal will only succeed if the Conference acted outside its own rules - thats the way it usually works with these things - or if Boston can find a grey area.

After an open meeting tonight, it has emerged the club holds a document which gave BUFC Conference membership last summer (the first basis of appeal). By admitting us last summer, the Conference breached their Appendix E (I think) because we were in a CVA. It is not a rule, just an Appendix - which is another basis of appeal.

BUFC were allowed membership last summer, to give the football club a chance to rebuild. The football has rebuilt, and has exited the CVA - albeit 10 days late.

Re: [scottywalds] Boston United expulsion appeal [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

My understanding was that Boston were accepted by the Conference because the agreement with the Football League is to accept the two teams relegated from League 2, of which Boston were one. Therefore unable to refuse the club, they were placed in Conference North rather than Conference National because of administration. On this grounds, what you call the first basis of appeal, I do not think the appeal will be upheld.

It is rather unfortunate that the club has managed to exit the cva beyond the time of the Conference rules. However, the club will have been well aware of this deadline and I do not envisage the appeal being successful.

Re: [BFR] Boston United expulsion appeal [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Presumably this arbitrary 10th May deadline is in place to limit the disruption caused by sides coming out of a CVA mid-summer and demanding their place back.

The irony is of course, that by sticking to this deadline instead of letting common sense and a spirit of positive goodwill towards those making a grand job of rectifying the damage caused by others, is that instead of the AGM at the weekend rubber-stamping the new line-ups with Boston included and looking forwards to a CVA-free future, the issue has instead dragged on yet further, more clubs are left unsure as to which league they are to be in, and the chaos shows no sign of letting up.

I know fans get bored with having nothing to do in the summer, but it seems the administrators of our game have the same problem, thus endeavouring to contrive the most disruptive solution to any situation they face, meaning their summers are busier than the rest of the year.

The panel has retired to consider it's verdict over night. As a Vauxhall Motors fan can I say that it's just as much agony for me as for the Boston fans. And, yes, I do have a great deal of sympathy for Boston's situation. I find it totally unfair that this has all come about because of a previous board of directors mis-management. Therefore, if I wasn't in the Vauxhall's camp I would be hoping for a positive outcome for Boston. However, please forgive me for my opposite stance.

However, being as you finished 2nd bottom, you should be able to accept a decision to 'reprieve' us from expulsion?

We've spent the last hour or so listening to Irish music on local radio waiting for news on the verdict...

Of course I can accept that. I am expecting the FA to find in your favour. I also heard a bit of that Irish music on line. It's a bit bleak!!!
May the best team win (which is usually whoever is playing Vauxhall's, so don't worry too muchWink)

Unknown at present, FA Leagues Committee are meeting today - but apparently it was all sorted before the appeal for which league we are in.

Boston are in the Unibond Premier according to the website.
Whilst I am delighted for my club, I am also saddened by this decision. I met David Newton last season and find him a thoroughly decent man who is working tiorelessly to get his club on an even keel. We discussed the situation and neither of us could find rhyme nor reason for their 2 league demotion, let alone this one. As I said before, the club have been punished for a previous regime's mis-management. It stinks and so while I am glad we have been reprieved, I am hardly hanging out the bunting.
I wish all connected with Boston United a speedy return to the Blue Square North.

Seems remarkable that these guys can spend nearly two days to confirm that their heads remain firmly in the sand....

If you are going to rigidly stick to a rule, and not consider the obvious common sense solution, then why not just say so straight away rather than stringing everyone along..?

Of all of the decisions/rulings/appeals that have gone on this summer, allowing Boston to stay up would appear to me to have been the least contentious flexing of the rules - apart from those clubs who will gain repreives from this outcome, who exactly was likely to object to Boston being allowed to remain where they were?

Anyway, good luck Boston, although dont be too keen on trying to get promoted, as there is always the possibility that some Conference idiot will try to prevent you being allowed back in....

I'm old enough to remember when football matches were decided on grass pitches!

You can see the ball go past them, or the man, but you'll never see both man and ball go past at the same time. So if the ball goes past, the man won't, or if the man goes past, they'll take the ball

There are people at Dagenham & Redbridge who feel that Boston should never have been promoted to the Football League in the first place due to things that happened off the field.

Indeed so. While I personally think we should now let bygones be bygones you only need to look at the D&R forum to see the glee with which some are viewing this ruling. Some won't be happy while Boston United is still in existence, mainly because of the huge amount of gloating that went on at the time from a number of so-called Boston supporters, most of whom I suspect were just glory hunters who have long since vanished.

My main concern is when justice is going to finally catch up with Steve Evans, who was, by all accounts, one of the chief architcts of Boston's earlier misdemeanours, and yet no matter how many times he's found guilty of various offences, often by his own admission, he is regularly let off with suspended sentences by both the High Court and the FA.
