Two matches seen around seven miles apart so plenty of time to kill in between the games.
The UEFA Youth League match was a straight shoot out for first place with Atletico needing to win to go top whilst a draw or win for Chelsea would see the home team win the group. The advantage of winning the group is that that club goes straight into the last 16 - the team finishing second goes into the last 32 so therefore plays an extra round in the knock out stages of the competition. Chelsea took the lead after 24 minutes from the penalty spot after Harvey St Clair had been brought down by Francisco Montero, with St Clair sending the keeper the wrong way. It was 2-0 just before the half hour when St Clair’s square pass from a free kick picked out Juan Familio-Castillo whose shot took a wicked deflection and looked over the keeper into the net. Just before the break, Chelsea got their third when Daishawn Redan raced to the by line before pulling the ball back to Luke McCormick to net from 10 yards.
On the hour it was 4-0 when Familio-Castillo got his second when he squeezed the ball in at the near post. Game over until Atletico got two consolations in the 88th and 89th minutes. First, two subs, Alberto Salido and Joaquin Munoz combined before the former slid the ball past the home keeper and then Salido found Adrian Ferreras Garcia who fired into the top left corner from 20 yards.
On to the Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub for the evenings entertainment, and admission prices, not advertised outside, at £10 was a bit costly for Step 4 in my view with most clubs charging £8 or £9. Programmes at £2 were also overpriced with 16 pages unstapled inside the advert laden shell.
A goalless first half wasn’t without chances and efforts on goal, however, most were off target. The watching Timmy Tabby appeared to be a bit worried that he would see his first (I think) goalless 90 minutes of the season, but his concerns were put to one side just after the hour when an angled shot from Youseff Bamba wasn’t held by the visiting keeper and Isaac Sarpong was there to snap up the rebound to put Casuals ahead. Two goals in five minutes late in the match gave the scoreline a slightly misleading feel. Bamba’s lovely low ball in from the left across the keeper picked out Toyosi Olusanya to score at the far post in his home debut for the club, and then Sarpong powered through the box to beat the keeper in a 1 on 1 to finish off the scoring.
