Re: [South Mercian] David Stride (Chelsea, Millwall, Leyton Orient) or Reply Privately

David Roy Stride

Born 14th March 1958 Lymington, Hampshire
Died Sunday 10th July 2016 (aged 58)

Stride joined Chelsea as an apprentice and signed professional forms in January 1976, by which time he had been converted from a left winger into a full back.
He captained the reserves before joining N.A.S.L. side Memphis Rogues on loan who were managed by ex Chelsea player Eddie McCreadie.
Chelsea legend Charlie Cooke was also at Memphis.

He returned to London and established himself in the Chelsea first team early in the 1978-79 campaign,
making 33 appearances in the relegation season and more early in the following season.
Then a hairline fracture of the skull cost him his place and he was transferred to Memphis Rogues in November 1979 for £90,000.

After playing for various U.S. sides he returned to London to play for Millwall and Leyton Orient in the mid 80's
Returning across the Atlantic he became as a hard man nicknamed "The Enforcer’ at Dallas Sidekicks, winners of the Indoor Soccer League in 1987.

Back in England again to run a pub in his hometown he played locally for Wellworthy and Lymington Town.
Stride also played for Chelsea Old Boys and was manager of non league Bashley for just 40 days in 2015
when sacked before their pre-season ended
after a run of poor pre-season results and lack of player signings.
Stride described the debacle as "codswallop".
